dinner Tuesday, Sept. 13, at a Nappanee restaurant. The Waubee Grange met in the home of Lulu Felkner last Friday evening with master Raymond Pinkerton presiding. Norman R. Vanlaningham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Vanlaningham, is one of the 240-member freshman class at Wabash College. Mrs. Robert Hurd entertained members of the Columbian Reading Circle of Milford at the club’s annual President’s party last Monday night. Tripoli was flayed with Inez Beiswanger finishing with the high score. The Milford unit of the United Methodist met recently in the home of Mrs. Robert Brooks with Mrs. Francis Vandergrift as cohostess. In the absence of the president, the vice president, Mrs. Everett Owens, presided over the meeting. The Milford Lions voted at a recent business meeting Monday night to pursue the purchase of a tract of land in or near Milford for the purpose of erecting a permanent “Lions Den.” It was mentioned that the ground under consideration should be ample to

The Milford Lions Monday night heard a different and enthusiastic talk by Wayne Rapsavage of Warsaw, extolling the virtues of physical fitness. Rapsavage, introduced to the club by member Glen Morehead, is attempting to win a position on the United States Olympic team as a javelin thrower. “Happy Harvey” Michael of Milford is out to win the tractor pull championship at the Fall Festival this year. Harvey, the hometown favorite, won the hearts of all when he won the contest in 1965. Don Hoover and Arnold (“Pete”) Doll were pictured this

week with a tomato canner they have improved on at the Cecil tomato canning plant in Milford which is now in the midst of its 20th canning season. Hoover and Doll have made a number of ingenious improvements on conveying cans to and from the never-ending whir of the canners. The Milford high school baseball team had rather easy sailing Friday evening in their game with Leesburg, defeating them by a count of 12 to 0. Wm. Eherenman of Plymouth is now enrolled at Indiana university. He attended Hanover college last year. The Elmer Doty property on So. Henry street, recently vacated by John Haab and family will be occupied by Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Hastings and daughter as soon as interior decorating is completed.

'Con Artists' wanted by Civic Theatre

The Warsaw Civic Theatre will be holding auditions for ‘The Sting,’ the first production of the 1987-88 season on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 2:30 or 7:30 p.m. at the Wagon Wheel Playhouse. There are over 30 parts that need to be filled, so all persons are welcome. No preparation or previous experience is necessary to try out. Those auditioning need only to show up at one time, not both. If there are conflicts with the Sunday audition schedule, or if there are questions about ‘The Sting’ or Civic Theatre, call 372-0195 and leave name and number. Everett Butterick is repainting the buildings at his farm southeast of Milford. Mrs. Ida Neff closed her gift shop at the Wawasee hotel, Wednesday and moved her stock of merchandise to her Milford shop. The Milford school band has been practicing marching this wtiek in preparation for playing at the county fair, Oct. 1-. They will play in the parade and also with the massed school bands of the county.
