North American Championship at Webster
By DEB PATTERSON I * Staff Writer The North American Boats championship demonstrated great power in front of a sparse crowd at Webster Lake Saturday. Drivers came from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kansas, New Jersey (who raced 17 boats), Wisconsin, Illinois. No major injuries, on Saturday Mike O’Brien hit a wave wrong and ran into one of the judges pontoon, putting a hole in the pontoon and his boat, as well as injuring his thumb. There was another guy on Saturday, who spilled and required minor>treatment for cut. On Sunday Barry Viola, Kansas, destroyed his boat at the start finish line and went on to finish the race, but the boat was in pieces and he made it to the pits before it sank, this was in the B hydro race. Attributed his finishing to experienced driving. This was the second year for the races at North Webster. Gary and Jodi Miller, North Webster, were co-race chairpersons. Helping sponsor the event was J.C. '•i Pontoons and Reneker’s Sporting Goods, as well as numerous
