Catholic church has many workers

i By CARLA GAFF Staff Writer Most churches have a number of different workers, ranging from Sunday school teachers, church superintendent, bus drivers, youth workers, pastor, assistant pastor and a number of others. But Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Milford also has lady laborers who graciously prepare the Sunday meal for the congregation. “We have a lady’s group that prepares a Sunday meal of Mexican soup, tacos or tostados,” explained administrator Brother James Linscott, “it’s a tradition that’s been going on since before I got here.” He went on to say the Sunday meal was started because most of the congregation enjoy staying after the service visiting with each other. So it was decided to have a meal each week. As the congregation is 100 percent Hispanic the meal is always Mexican and Spanish style. And, most persons will remain at the church until around 2 p.m. on Sundays. Additionally, the church has a new laborer in the form of a pastor. Approximately six weeks ago Father Paul Bueter was named pastor of the church. He also pastors the St. John’s Church in Goshen. Pastor Bueter was a missionary in Panama and speaks Spanish to the congregation. The church also has eight Sunday school teachers, three musical leaders, and a Sunday school program leader, however, there are not a lot of other church leaders. Brother Linscott explained, “We’ve a very small group and they come from different areas, and we don’t have an organized visitation group, but we do have a pastoral leadership training program.” The program is taught in three different sessions each year This years session will begin on Saturday, Sept. 12, with a Bible study over the Gospels. The group will also be taught the history of Hispanics in the United States. This will entail descendants of Puerto Rico, Spain and Mexico. The Milford Catholic church was founded in 1972. However, many members of the congregation were gathering together

example, Dr. Dobson portrays the pressures today’s parents are susceptible to. He reminds them of society’s slide toward humanism and the undermining influences of radio, television, films and the press, which can onIv be counterbalanced by a loving home where Christian values are instilled from an early age. A swelling majority of Americans sense the vulnerability of their own families and are willing to make all commitments necessary to preserve them. Dr. James and Shirley Dobson urge those individuals to get involved and return to the traditional values upon which families are best created and nurtured. “Turn Your Heart Toward Home” is a personally challenging film series that every parent should see.
