Glen Treesh killed in accident in lowa

GLEN L. TREESH Glen L. (“Ike") Treesh, 64, South Henry Street, Milford, died at 1 p.m. yesterday, July 7, 1987, in Winterset, lowa. Death was caused by a crushed chest as Treesh was pinned between a lift truck and his truck while at the Winterset Egg Company. A retired farmer, well-known in the area for his raising and distilling of mint southwest of Milford, Treesh had been employed for Metzger & Sons Trucking Company, Silver Lake, for three years. Born February 25,1923, in Marshall County, he was the son of Roy and Mina (Rarick) Treesh. He was a life-time resident of the Milford area. On August 18, 1944, he married Jean Geiger. She survives. A veteran of the US Navy in World War 11, Treesh was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 226 of Milford, Kosciusko Lodge 418 F&AM, Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne, Scottish Rite of South Bend and Kosciusko County Shrine Club. He was a former member of the Mini-Shrine Bike Patrol and also a former Lions club member, having served as president of the Milford Lions Club. Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Michael Treesh, Missouri City, Texas, Mark Treesh, West Lafayette, and Jon Treesh, Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. James (Pamela) Rummel. Classes at GGH

Goshen General Hospital will be offering two classes, one on diabetes and the other a 28-hour EMT refresher training course. Is diabetes controlling a member of the family? Diabetes is a major health problem and many people are not well informed. Knowledge of the disease and it’s care is important in preventing problems. The staff at Goshen Hospital wants to help. A series of diabetic classes for diabetics, their families, and other interested people will be held at Goshen Hospital on July 13,14,15, and 16 at 2 p.m. in Pepple Auditorium in the hospital. The Monday class will be “Diabetes: Explanation and care.” On Tuesday, “Principles of the diabetic diet” will be discussed. Group participation of “Planning meals for at home and away from home” is the highlight for Wednesday. The final session will cover “The effects of diabetes on the body” on Thursday. Nancy Schooley, RN, diabetes education coordinator, and Barb Fierce, RD, hospital dietitian, will conduct the classes. These classes are presented to help people understand more about diabetes. Young, 81, Nevada, Mo., formerly of Milford, died Thursday, July 2, 1987, at 5:45 a m. in a nursing home in Nevada. Death was due to complications following an extended illness. She was born in Boonville on January 19, 1906, the daughter of Stephen J. and Katie (Marmor) Poehlein. On October 22,1926. she married Harold Young. He passed away in June 15,1986. Mrs. Young moved to Nevada from Milford in July 1986. She was a retired manager of the Milford school cafeteria and had worked at Walter Drug Store in Milford for a number of years. She was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church and Kosciusko Chapter 160 Order of Eastern Star, Milford.

Find missing Ohio mon in boat Ronald Leonard, 71, Bellevue, Ohio, was found dead in a boat on Lake Wawasee early Monday morning, July 6. Authorities believe he died of an apparent heart attack. Leonard, a cousin of Lake Wawasee residents John and Debbie Leonard, went fishing at 10 p.m. on Sunday and was last seen at approximately 11 p.m. that evening. Kosciusko County officers were contacted at 3 a m. Monday morning when the Ohio man was reported missing. His body was discovered about 5:20 a.m. by lake residents. His boat was spotted about 50 feet off a pier on the lake's south side. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Airlines warned Transportation Secretary Elizabeth Dole, citing a high number of complaints from air travelers, asked airlines to take new steps to “reduce the level of passenger dissatisfaction."

Wimmer, 75, 933 Park Lane, Elwood, died Tuesday morning, July 7,1987, in St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis. Death resulted after a brief illness. Born July 9, 1911, in Grant County, he was the son of Arthur A. and Bertha Wimmer. On April 21. 1939, he married Lorene Dobson. She survives. Wimmer was a longtime board member of the Heritage Federal Savings Bank in Elwood, a member of the Madison County Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, American Bar Association, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Elwood Eastern Star, Elwood Lions Club, Elwood Country Club, Elwood Elks Club and Tippecanoe Country Club. He was also admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court in 1958. Surviving along with his wife are a son, Richard Wimmer, Augusta. Prescott was born in North Webster on June 2, 1924, the son of Lawrence and Ruby (Cretcher) Prescott. On February 2, 1945, he married Frances Bowser. She survives. A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Prescott was a member of the Warsaw Wesleyan Church and Columbia City American Legion, US Army veteran serving during World War 11, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving along with his wife are two sons, James and Ronald Prescott, both of Pierceton; one brother. Theodore Prescott, Nappanee; and five grandchildren. He had been in failing health several months. Gill was born in Warsaw on June 8, 1946, the son of George and Ruth Perrin. He was adopted by Glen and Susan (Schindler) Gill. On August 17,1988, he married Lois Buckingham. She survives. A member and lay leader of the Leesburg United Methodist Church, he was employed at Zimmer, Inc., Warsaw. Gill served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, was a member of Warsaw VFW and also served in the Navy Reserves. He was a member of the Mizpah Shrine Temple, Leesburg Masonic Lodge and Fort Wayne Valley of Scottish Rite. < Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, Mrs. Susan Gill Kerr, Warsaw; a daughter, Tammy, and a son, Troy, both at home; two sisters, Linda Marshall, Decatur, and Sally Hile, Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Dave Perrin, Bourbon; and Brad Perrin, Bluffton. Military graveside services will be held by the Warsaw VFW at Oswego Cemetery. A Masonic memorial service was held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, July 7, at the funeral home. Leonard J. Smith Leonard J. Smith, 58,606 South Main Street, Syracuse, was found dead in his home Saturday, July 6, 1987. He suffered an apparent heart attack. Born in Fort Wayne on July 1, 1928, he was the son of Everett and Rosa (Fite) Smith. He spent most of his life in the Syracuse/North Webster area. Retired from the Dana Corp, Smith was affiliated with the Eagles Lodge and Auxiliaries of the American Legion and VFW of Syracuse. His survivors include his mother, Rosa Smith; one daughter, Mrs. George (Joanna) Stidams, North Webster; two sons, Thomas Smith, North Webster, and Mitchell Smith, Syracuse; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a foster sister, Mrs. Margaret Barry, Warsaw. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 6. at the North Webster Cemetery; Rev. O. Rex Lindemood officiated Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse, was in charge of arrangements.
