KING AND HIS COURT — North Webster’s Tournament of Knights honored three outstanding athletes after last Saturday’s athletic competition at the North Webster School. Troy Slone, center, won the competition and was named “King Arthur". Pictured with Slone are Travis Reiff, Prince of Festival; and Eric Beer. Royal Knight. - / Slone, received a SSOO academic scholarship to enhance his education at Cumberland University. Reiff’s S3OO award goes towards his education at Tri-State University, while Beer plans on using his S2OO award at Indiana Universityy-Purdue University at Indianapolis.
Pan Am torch in Milford
MILFORD — Jerry Bowden, Kiwanis lieutenant-colonial, and Larry Wickett, Indianapolis, representing the Pan Am Torch Run, met with the Land of Lakes Kiwanis division last week in the Milford Community building. The two state officials reviewed plans for the torch run. The torch run will go through Milford on Monday, Aug. 3. Nappanee Morning Clubs, and Wawasee have accepted the responsibility of providing meals, lodging, and sponsored runners for the miles from Leesburg to New Paris. Sponsors who contribute SIOO a mile to the Riley Hospital Children’s Trauma Center will designate a runner. Each runner will receive a Pan Am uniform, and will be invited to take part in the opening ceremonies in Indianapolis. A caravan of nearly 20 individuals will move the torch from Michigan City throughout the state, covering 1,100 miles. The caravan will stop overnight in Milford, lodging at Camp Mack. The Milford Club is hosting the overnight stay, while Wawasee’s club will provide the runners’ evening meal at Syracuse’s Gropp’s restaurant. Medical costs Americans spend more than $lO billion a year on medical problems caused by outdoor pollutants, says National Geographic.
