1987 Flotilla expected to be one of the largest ever
The 1987 Wawasee Flotilla is expected to be one of the largest ever held, due largely to the community-wide interest in the Syracuse Sesquicentennial. It is expected over 75 entries will be participating. The parade starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 5. All floats should report to the judges boat for registration by 12:30 p.m. The judges boat will be at the entrance of Buttermilk Bay and will be clearly marked. The parade starting point will be the area in* front of the Fish Hatchery Park, and proceed clockwise around the lake, ending at the starting point. The judges decisions will be announced at the end of the parade and medals will be awarded to all entries. Judging will be done in five divisions: Commercial, nonprofit organizations, residential, youth, and antique/classic boats. First place winners in each division will receive gold-colored medals, second place winners will receive silver-colored medals, and all others will receive bronze-colored medals. The best overall entry will receive the Commodores Cup and the special Earl Money Trophy will also be awarded. John Kroh, a native of Syracuse, has been named Com-

quicentennial, and an excellent way for merchants to show their appreciation to their customers. Floats need not be elaborate, and they can be built on any type of boat that is seaworthy and capable of maintaining 10 miles per hour. There is no theme this year, so entries can choose any theme they want for their float. And, of course, the Antique/Classic boats are always popular, and quite a few of them are expected to be present.
