Obituaries
Times-Union publisher dead at 76 Charles Reuben (“Reub”) Williams, 76, 1224 Country Club Dr., Warsaw, died at 10 a m. Friday, June 26, 1987, in Kosciusko Community Hospital. He had suffered a heart ailment for some time. Williams, who was publisher of The Times-Union, was born in Warsaw on December 6,1910, the son of the late Logan H. Williams, Times-Union publisher, and Estelle (Wahl) Williams. In 1937, he married the former Helen Smith. She survives. Williams was educated at Howe and St. John's Military Academies where he standout athlete in basketball and track, and had attended the University of Nebraska. He served in the US Army during World War II for 4' 2 years, serving in the 12th Army’s 23rd Special Forces Unit. He was the Army’s first commander of a top secret armored combat deception unit. The unit he commanded was awarded five battle stars during his tour of duty in the European Theater. He retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. For 18 years, he served as director of First National Bank of Warsaw and was a director emeritus of that bank at the time of his death. He was on the board of directors of Baker Boy’s Club for 25 years, a lifetime member of both the John C. Peterson Post 49 of the American Legion and the Warsaw Elks Lodge, and was a member of the Warsaw Presbyterian Church. In 1948, he

founded radio station WRSW-FM and WRSW-AM in 1952 Surviving with his wife are one son, Michael Ro Williams, Warsaw, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond B. Williams. The body was cremated with a private interment in Oakwood Cemetery. There were no public services. Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, was in charge if arrangements. Don F. Lyon Don F. Lyon, 74, r 3 Kuhn Lake, Leesburg, died at 12:04 p.m. Friday, June 26, 1987, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. The son of Frank and Ellie (Eaton) Lyon, he was born on March 23, 1913, in Mentone. On July 16, 1951, he married Marian Bennett. She preceded him in death in December 1988. Lyon was a former sports writer for the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, an employee of the Indiana Employment Securities Division, and for many years owned and operated the Lyon’s Bait and Tackle Shop at Kuhn Lake. A resident of North Webster for 30 years, he was past commander and finance officer of the North Webster American Legion and member of the Kosciusko County 40 et 8. He also served with the US Army Air Force in World War 11. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Louise Evans and Mrs. Betty Milligan, both of Attica. He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 29, in Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Rev. William Barlow officiating. Military services were conducted in North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition.

He underwent angioplasty on Friday and was able to return to his Milford home on Saturday, June 27. Dr. Zehr is reportedly feeling well and will gradually be returning to his work.
< Ruth L. Jordan , Ruth L. Jordan, 80, St. Petersburg, Fla., died Sunday, June 28, 1987, at 9:15 p.m. in St. Vincent's Hospice Center, Indianapolis. She had been ill' for sometime. - Mrs. Jordan was born- on January 5, 1907, in Nebraska, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Mertz. On July 3, 1925, she married Curtis A. Jordan. He survives. She spent most of her life in Indianapolis except for the past 20 years when she resided in Florida. She was a member of the Bradripple Christian Church in Indianapolis. Surviving with her husband are one son, Curtis E. Jordan, North Webster: two brothers, Lloyd Mertz, Indianapolis, and Harold Mertz, Sebring, Fla.; two sisters, Leona Harris and Ethel Stricklin, both of Indianapolis; one grandson; and two greatgrandchildren. more than 30 years had owned and operated Hamman’s Bait and Tackle Shop in North Webster. He was a member of the North Webster United Methodist Church. Also surviving are two sons, Albert E. Hamman, Jr„, North Webster, and Richard A. Hamman, Rowlett, Texas; fivegrandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Susie Angel, Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by one brother. Rev. O. Rex Lindemood conducted the services with burial following in the North Webster Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Minnie Decker Minnie Decker, 90, Prairie View Rest Home, Warsaw, died Friday, June 26,1987, at 2:10 p.m. in the rest home. Death was due to complications following an extended illness. Mrs. Decker was born in Fairmount on- September 10,1896, Uie daughter of James and Lucinda (Zeek) Lynch. On May 3, 1924, she married Wilford Decker in Fairmount. He preceded her in . death on November 11,1970. She was a long-time Milford resident. In 1976, Mrs. Decker moved to Prairie View from Gas City. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Gas City, a housewife, and had worked at Cecil's Foods in Milford. Surviving are one niece, Mrs. Joe (Betty) Bothwell, Gas City, and one nephew, Frances Decker, Goshen. Graveside services were held ■>in Milford Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, with Rev. Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, was in charge of arrangements. . Volney Storey Volney Storey, 83, Shabbona, 111., died June 24. 1987. He was the father of Don Storey, Syracuse. He was born on October 12, 1904, in Shabbona, the son of DeForest and Jennie Storey. On October 28, 1932, he married Edessa Herrington in Ann Arbor, Mich. She survives. Storey attended Shabbona, schools and Mount Morris Col-° lege. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1927 with a bachelor of arts degree. He was very active in all Masonic organizations and served as grand commander of the Knights Templar of the state off Illinois from 1976 to 1977. He was a member of Shabbona Masonic Lodge 374, Freeport Scottish Rite, Rockford Tebala Temple, and was a 33rd Degree Mason. Surviving with his wife and son is another son, Bob of Las Vegas, Nev. ; one daughter of Honolulu, Hawaii; and three grandchildren. Services were held Monday, June 29, in the Jacobson Funeral Home of Shabbona with Rev. Joseph Newton officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Shabbona. The son of Marvin and Bertha Mae (Prescott) Grimes, he was born in Pierceton on April 23, 1910. On April 19, 1942, he married Laura Virginia Hatten. She survives. r Grimes served in the US Army Corps during World War II and later owned Grimes Bait and Tackle Store in North Webster. He was a member of the North Webster American Legion Pyst 258 and the United Methodist Church of North Webster. . va3&.»» FOUR INJURED IN ACCIDENT — Bud Kirkwood. 10; Becky Harting, 14; Angela Martindale, four; and Carla Martindale, 23, all of r 5 box 97, Syracuse, were injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday, June 26. at 11: 15 a.m. The accident occurred on SR 13, one-half mile south of CR 530E. The injured, all suffering minor bleeding to the face and arms, were taken to Goshen Hospital by Syracuse and North Webster Emergency Medical Services. Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report Philip R. Smith, 25, 28895 Danielson, Elkhart, was north bound in a pick-up and jvas slowing for a vehicle in front of him which was going to make a right turn. When Smith slowed down, Carla Martindale's car, which was also north bound, struck the back of the Smith-driven truck. Damage to Smith’s 1981 Chevrolet truck was listed at up to $2,500 and upto $5,000 to the 1982 Mercury driven by Carla Martindale. $ Investigating the accident were Kosciusko County Sheriff's Officers Michael Hobbs and Rich Mikel and Indiana State Police Trooper Rex Orcutt.

He was a World War II veteran, served on the Goshen Police Department, was employed with the former Hettricks Manufacturing Co., and retired from Ivy Terrace. He was an avid golfer and a charter member of Maplecrest Country Club. Surviving with his wife are a brother, Ronald R., Goshen; and two sisters, Phyllis Branson and Norma Robinson, both of Elkhart’.
