Wawasee swim club wins season opener
SYRACUSE — Wawasee swim club opened the summer season Tuesday, June 16, with a convincing 362-207 victory over Pine Valiev. Kyle Metcalf paced Wawasee’s eight-and-under group with three individual victories. Metcalf won the 100 IM with a 1:53.46 time. Metcalf added a 25 freestyle victory (18.80) and 25 backstroke win (21.92). In the girls eight-and-under division, Jeri Yoder, Jenni Marty, Chandra Mathew, and Kassidy Biddle teamed up to win the medley relay in 1:26.15. Mathew added a 100 IM victory, 25 freestyle, and 25 butterfly crown. Elizabeth Rehling, Mathew, Kara Mathew, and Biddle joined efforts to win the freestyle relay in 1:20.03. Wawasee’s 9-10 age group

claimed a pair of relay wins — medley and freestyle relay. In both races, the same individuals worked for the win. Leslie Gardner, Amy Rehling, Carol Taylor, and Staci Naugler finished the medley in 1:26.11, while in the free, they finished in 1:18.16. . - ’ Other individual victories included Gardner’s triumph in the * 100 IM and 25 butterfly. Taylor claimed the 25 freestyle crown, while Rehling won the 25 breaststroke, and Naugler added the 25 backstroke title. At the 11-12 boys age group, Andy Kryder paced Wawasee’s effort. Kryder won the 100 IM in 1:10.39, then later claimed the 50 breaststroke - and 50 butterfly crowns. Eric Shaekel won the 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke. In the girls’ division, Erin Mills, Angie Gardner. Brandee
Carlson, and Erin Titris won the medley relay and freestyle relay. The winning medley time was 2:33.38, while the victorious freestyle time was 2:22.29. Carlson, in addition to the relay victories, added three individual titles. She won the 100 IM, then captured the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly. Mills added a triumph in the 50 backstroke, and Christy Rozow won the 50 breaststroke. In the boys’ 13-14 competition, Casey Kline dominated the action. He won the 50 freestyle in 2 5.03, then won the 5 0 breaststroke in 37.26, and the 50 backstroke in 32.22. In the girls’ division, Sara Kline, Tiffiny Titus, Lori Boles, and Tonya Swartzendruber won the medley and freestyle relays. The winning medley time was 2:28.10, while the winning
freestyle time was 2:13.17. Boles added a 100 IM victory, as well as a victory in the 50 breaststroke, and 50 butterfly. Kline added a win in the 50 backstroke. In the oldest group, 15-and-over, Paul Morel, Scott Rozow, Matt Fryback, and Mark Rich joined efforts to win the medley relay. They finished in 1:48.45. Fryback added a 100 IM victory, as well, as a triumph in the 50 butterfly. Rich claimed victory in the 50 freestyle, while Rozow won the 50 breaststroke, and Morel won the 50 backstroke. Brian Neff, Scott Berkey, Fryback, and' Morel closed out the competition with a victory in the freestyle relay. Their time was 1:39.79. In the girls’ division, Jenny Titus, Sheri Payne, Tonya Perzanowski, and Sirena Barton
turned in a 2:12.35 time, good for first place. Titus added to her collection of victories a triumph in the 100 IM, 50 freestyle, and 50 backstroke. Payne claimed the 50 breaststroke victory, while Perzanowski won the 50 butterfly. Wawasee swimathon SYRACUSE — The Wawasee Swim Club will have a swimathon at the high school pool Wednesday, July 1, from 5-9 p.m. The purpose of the Invent is to raise money for a new clock and scoreboard system. The swimathon is open to any Wawasee community residents. Swimmers will be accepting donations for the number of laps they will swim. For additional information, contact Sandy Laub, 457 4810.
