O'Haver, Koontz save Warriors

SYRACUSE — Jay Koontz ripped a two-run double in the sixth inning Friday, and Wawasee received solid relief pitching from Dan O’Haver as the Warriors defeated North Wood 8-6 in sjimmer league baseball action. Heavy hitting highlighted the early action, with both teams scoring in the first three innings. North Wood pushed three runs across in the initial, inning, then padded a 3-1 lead with two runs in the second, and a single tally in the third. But the Warriors returned the favor.

Scott Siler’s squad, after scoring three times in the second, evened the score at 6-6 with a tworun third inning rally. O’Haver - then took over for Adam Wilson on the mound and shut down the Panthers. Wilson gave up all six North Wood runs on seven hits in two innings of work. O’Haver, in the final five frames, limited the Panthers to two harmless hits. Koontz, O’Haver, and Chris Conkling paced Wawasee’s 12-hit offensive attack with extra base hits.
