New youth minister in Milford

He said he and his wife, Jeana, are both excited to be be in Milford and are look- “ ing forward to getting to know the area people. He said he plans to work diligently to help enrollment in the school and Sunday School grow. “A few years ago there were from 80 to 100 youth members. We will strive to increase to those numbers again.” he said.” Salad bar to - honor mothers and daughters A salad bar at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at the Saint Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Syracuse, will honor mothers and daughters. All members of the family are invited to attend the event. Church musical on Mother's Day The Calvary Kids and Calvary Youth Choirs, directed by Elaine A Weiss and accompanied by Cindy Pritchard, will present “Why?,” the who, what and why musical for children, on May 10 at Calvary United Methodist Church on SR 13 in Syracuse. Appearing as lead soloist with the choirs is Calvary’s pastor, Rev. David Maish. Also singing solos will be Amy Bradley, Jenny Marty, Amy Pritchard, Elizabeth Ringler and Caroline Weiss. Speaking parts will be handled by each of the 23 members of the Calvary Kids Choir, with Ron Stoll also in a speaking role. This musical attempts to answer the question often heard by parents on Sunday morning, "Why do we have to go to church?” The public is cordially invited to hear the convincing answer at the ividj IV iVivLiivi o ... r service. The musical will also be presented to the residents of the Hubbard Hills Retirement Center in Elkhart on Saturday, May 9.

The United Methodist Women of Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse will pay honor to mothers, daughters, granddaughters and friends at a dinner program to be held at Oakwood Park Hotel on Saturday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. Following the dinner, Marcia Yost of Goshen will present a program entitled “Musical Merriment for In addition to songs and music, her program will include the use of hand puppets and participation by her audience, both children
and adults. She also serves as director and program arranger for the Crimsonaires of Goshen High School, a well-known “swing choir” which is noted for its singing and dancing presentations throughout this area. The director recently accompanied the choir to New York City where the members had been asked to participate in an invitational onnfacf Members of the Women's Association of Calvary Church and Yost cordially invite all to atZendthis special program which
they are proud to present. The Ruth Circle of the church, under direction of Luella Longenbaugj/, is in charge of arrangements and decorations for the Banquet. Shirley Goodspeed and Priscilla Juday are in charge of program arrangements. The Lois and Martha Circles will also assist in other departments. Susie Tytler. president of the women’s association, will serve as greeter and moderator. Oakwood Park is on Lake Wawasee just south of Syracuse.
WCSC plays Bible numbers trivia
“Running the Lovely Laps,” was the program given by Kate Hibschnjan at the April meeting of the Syracuse Church of God Women’s Christian Service Council. A Bible Numbers\Trivia Game was played and a meditation on loneliness was read. Pauline Firestone was asked to tell of her volunteer work as a driver for Meals on Wheels. The meeting was in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Firestone shared experiences she has had in her tact with the people she delivers meals to one day a month. She stated for some of these people, the meals driver is the only person they see the entire day. The discussion for the group was also on loneliness. The discussion brought out that it is not only many of the elderly who are lonely, but many times mothers at home with young children and people in other stages of life. ■ i Mrs. Hibschman and Joella Johnson spoke on their visits to nursing homes. The women mentioned the care given by the staff was that of dedication and caring. During new discussion was conductedon purchasing for the church library. What books to purchase? will be decided at a later date. Workbooks were checked and prayer requests were heard. Mrs. Firestone lead thegroup in prayer. Mrs. Hibschman served refreshments to the 11 members and two guests, Judy Bachtel and Michelle Roberts. Mrs. Robertson assisted the hostess. The WCSC will not meet during May due to the Mother-Daughter Banquet on May 7, in the church. United Methodist Churchnews On Thursday evening, May 7, at 7 p.m., the education committee, Vacation Bible School teachers, and helpers of United Methodist Church at Milford will meet in the East Room. On May 10 during worship service, the recognition of mothers and high school graduates will take place. There will be a baby shower given on Tuesday evening, May 12, at 7 p.m. for Kathy Brown and Jodi Brown and Jodi’s new son, Benjamin Douglas. At 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, the United Methodist Women’s daughters’ salad bar banquet will be held at the church. Everyone is to take a salad and take table service. Rolls and beverage will be furnished. Mary Lu Cannon, a soprano soloist, will share Hffitfch'j fe s meal. Last Sunday the hospitality time was hosted by Ruth Hoppes.
