31 seniors are inducted into Wawasee's Academic Hall of Fame
Wawasee High School inducted 31 seniors into its Academic Hall of Fame, Saturday, April 18, at, Maxwelton Golf Club. High school officials also inducted students dating back to 1969. Inducted into the hall from the present graduating class were Scott Baker, Angela Barton, Amy Beep, Sarah Boyer, David Brockers, Shelly Daniels, Renee Gammiere, Jack Jennings, Jennifer Kline, Kristina Lange, ? First inductees into the Academic Hall of Fame For the first time, Wawasee High School held an Academic Hall of Fame recognition banquet Saturday evening at Maxwelton Golf Club near Syracuse. This academic recognition for students was brought into being by Wawasee’s principal, Ned Speicher. The objectives for the hall of fame are to create a policy to honor outstanding • academic accomplishments by the students and to promote a I student striving for excellence. The criteria for admittance to the hall of fame is that all students must have a 3.5 GPA (grade point average) or above at the completion of the seventh semester at Wawasee High School to qualify. All students who have a GPA of 3.3 to 3.5 and have accumulated 18 or more academic requirements (social studies, mathematics, science, language arts) at the completion of the seventh semester at Wawasee are qualified for the Academic Hall of Fame. The Academic Hall pf Fame will be located in the commons on the east brick wall. All the students inducted into the hall of fame from the 1986-87 school year or into the future will have their classes’ group photograph of the academic award winners displayed. Previous graduating students who are qualified will have their names engraved Oman Academic Hall of Fame plaque and displayed. 5 All 1986-87 Academic Hall of Fame inductees received a specially designed academic ring from Wawasee to horior them > for their outstanding accomplishments. Each hall of fame student in turn awarded a plaque to the educator who had the greatest positive influence on his educational career. The Academic Hall of Fame banquet and awards for future years will be funded jointly through Wawasee High School funds and through community donations.

Evans is a sophomore- at Wawasee High School. Student pages spend one day at the Statehouse assisting senators and senate staff members with a variety of legislature-related activities and learning about the structure of Indiana's - state government. According to the senator, visiting the state Capitol and serving as a page in the In-' diana General Assembly is a veryeducational experience for young people because it provides them with the opportunity to directly observe and participate in the legislative process. . On Thursday. May 28. Wawasee High School will be hosting the Sixth Annqal Freshman Welcome Night, which will start with registration at 6:30 p.m. Following a brief introduction at 7 p m. in the auditorium.

Invitations were mailed to each eighth grade student this week and reservation cards need to be mailed back by Friday. April 24. The cards must be signed by a parent in order for them to attend. Anyone needing transportation should indicate this on their reservation card. This event gives Eighth grade students an opportunity to get together for the first time as the Wawasee High School Class of 1991. Students will become more familiar with the facilities and meet new classmates while participating in an evening of scheduled activities, including a dance. Parents of incoming freshmen are invited to attend the event, also. They will have the opportunity to meet other parents and faculty members, tour the building and have refreshments. Art show and industrial arts exhibit at WHS The students and faculty of Wawasee High School invite the public to the annual art show and industrial arts exhibit. The display will be held in the commons area of High School on April 24 and 25. The show will be open to the public, free of charge, from 4-9 p.m. on Friday, April 24, and from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday. April 25. Judging of the show will take place Saturday morning. First, second, third place, and honorable mention ribbons will be awarded to each art category. A "Best-of-show" piece will be chosen from the first place winners and it will be purchased by the school and put on permanent display in auditorium hallway. Enrollment increase There has been an 18 percept increase in enrollment over the last two years in private career schools. -
