10 YEARS AGO. APRIL 6,1977 Snow flurries fell to an accumulation of abotit one inch over the Lakeland area last night (Tuesday). With students from the schools on their annual spring vacation, motorists awoke to find secondary roads iced over and slick. Highways were snow covered in spots. Cadet Paul J. Miller, son of Dr. ■ and Mrs. Thomas A. Miller of Milford, has been promoted to the rank of cadet staff sergeant at the US Air Force Academy. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Graff of Milford were guests of honor at a 60th anniversary supper given by their daughters and families in the House of Friendship at Winona Lake. Heather Beer, a Milford Junior High eighth grader, captured first place, in vaulting, in the state YMCA gymnastics meet in Hammond last Saturday. Rex Wuthrich, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Wuthrich of r 2 Milfbrd, has been selected as the 1977 Milford Boys’ Stater. He will represent the Milford Legion Post 226 at the annual event set for this summer. The alternate chosen is Blane Hurd, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hurd of r 1 Milford. Milford Lions got a full report on the activities of Boy Scout Troop 47, a troop the club has sponsored for years, by Scoutmaster David Benning, at the club’s Monday night meeting. 20 YEARS AGO, APRIL 5, 1967 Smoke did considerable damage at the Russell Hbman home on Waubee Lake Saturday evening when a pipe going from the furnace to the chimney drop- ' ped off. Brenda Wilson, a student at Ball State university, was one of 22 members of Wesley Foundation to spend Easter vacation on a trip to Washington, D. C. Brenda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wilson of r 2 Milford. Mrs. Don (Anita) Davidson of . near Milford joined the county extension staff as county 4-H club leader Monday. Three of Milford high school seniors who will be featured as soloists on Friday evening in the spring concert are Jeanne Moneyheffer, Cindy Beer and Kristi Lichtenwalter. The Milford Jr. Bachelors met March 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Milford fire station. The meeting was called to order by vice president Louie Davis. The American pledge was led by Kip Tom and

This area is recovering from a severe ice and wind storm which swept the mid-west last evening. A large limb fell over the hood of the Chevrolet belonging to John Perry doing considerable damage. Polio shots were given to 238 children Wednesday afternoon at the Milford elementary school. Mr. and Mrs. James Sumpter purchased the Milford residence of the late Lena Haab, located on the corner of-First and West streets. The purchase was made Friday and the Sumpters moved into their new home on Saturday. Bob O’Blenis is a waiter at the Melody Case. Mrs. Helen Funk gave a luncheon for the birthday of her sister, Miss Edith Baumgartner. Mar. 30. Miss Esther Beer was a guest. Area women to graduate from Goshen College

Two area women will be participating in Goshen College’s 89th commencement at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 12. Greta C. Hurd will be awarded a bachelor of arts degree with a major in home economics. The daughter of John and Carol Hurd, r I box 252, Milford, she is a 1982 graduate of Wawasee High School. Mary (Bushong) Ridings will be awarded a bachelor of arts degree with a major in home economics and a minor in secondary education. The daughter of Avon and Mary Ellen Bushong, PO Box 323, Syracuse, she is a 1966 graduate of Syracuse High SBOO in damages caused to vehicle Milford Police estimated SBOO damage was' caused to a 1978 Ford owned by Mario Rodriguez, Milford, when it was struck on the left rear Sunday night, April 5. The vehicle, which was parked near the corner of Emeline and Main Streets, was struck by another vehicle which fled the scene. Police are still investigating the incident.
