LOUISA'S letter (f;: -
Dear Louisa, What can I do about my grandfather and his driving? He always has his license renewed in time so that he doesn’t have an examination. But I am afraid he willi kill himself and others if he keeps on driving. ' * ' He has cataracts in both eyes and refuses to have an operation. He cannot tell who people are if they are seated across the room from him. He has dents all over the car from running into things or backing into something. When I suggest that he stop driving he tells me to mind my own business. Grandson — Va.

Answer: I do not know what the law is in Virginia but in some states people have to take an examination when they reach the age of seventy. How old is your grandfather? It seems that if his driving is as bad as you say it is some of the patrolmen would have reported him by now. My advice would be for him to have the cataracts removed. I had this done and now wear contacts and have no trouble driving. Louisa Address letters: Louisa, Box 532, Orangeburg, S.C. 29115
snowmobile operator is urged to keep both feet on the sled. Officer Sullivan explained that Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area is not open for snowmobiling. Most of Kosciusko County roads may be used by snowmobilers, but only the berm is legal on state highways. Registration is required for all snowmobiles used on public property and operators must be licensed and obey the laws. Caution is necessary when operating a snowmobile in unfamiliar terrain or on a lake. Lakeland Coin Club invites new members
According to a recent article in “U. S. News,” coin collecting is the “in” thing to do in 1987. The Lakeland Coin Club of Syracuse is having a membership drive during the next several months, geared to junior members and to people who are entirely new to the age-old hobby of coin collecting. Coin collecting began with the striking of the first coin in the seventh century BC and has grown over the years to the point where today there are at least four million coin collectors in the US alone. Ever since the first US coins were struck some 190 years ago,’ the US penny has been the most commonly collected US coin. The reverse design of the Lincoln cent was changed 28 years ago from the “wheat ears” to the “Lincoln Memorial.” Already, there are over 65 varieties of the Lincoln Memorial cent, counting all the various mintmarks and other varieties. The Lakeland Coin Club has been busy putting together sets bf these pennies to give away to new junior members who attend at least three meetings. Beginning with the next meeting on Tuesday, March 10, UAW retirees hold carry-in The UAW Local 1405 retirees held a carry-in dinner on February 25 at the St. Martin DePorres Church in Syracuse. There were 14 retirees and seven guests present; six officers were present. Dorothy Murphy is acting president until election of new officers is held in May. Clyde Johnston gave the blessing before the meal. Donna Lambert was hostess for the meeting. The next meeting will be March 25 at St. Martin DePorres with a carry-in dinner. All Weatherhead and Dana retirees are welcome.

Mrs; Dunn is the sister of Bob Holloway, a partner with famed ocean explorer, Mel Fisher. She was introduced by Varner Chance, program director. Mrs. Dunn showed copies of maps used by Fisher and Holloway when they started their treasure search for a Spanish ship, ‘Nuestra Senora de Atocha” which sank in the Gulf of Mexico, 10 miles southeast of Key West, Fla., in 1622. The search was in the early 1970 s with the goal to find Atocha and the new world riches from Columbia, South America, to Florida enroute to Spain. She stated in one search area closer to the Keys, under 15 feet of water and 15 feet of sand, some Atocha articles were discovered and traced out into the Gulf Stream where the lower hull was discovered in 1976. The experiences along the way read like a novel as the Atocha did reveal a vast hidden cache of valuables, according to Mrs. Dunn. Many articles, books, and a Cliff Robertson movie have described the Atocha adventure. Mrs. Dunn brought with her samples of gold chain, coins, rings, and jewels taken from the ship. She told of one eight pound box of emeralds that contained a 77-cdtat emerald and how one entire room in the Atocha contained silver bars weighing 75 pounds each. She stated a conservative estimate of the Atocha treasurer would be S4OO million. An elaborate point count of the inventory is still being completed prior to distribution. NOW PLAYING... REPORT ON SCHOOL PROPOSALS — Rev. Mike Johnson, left, and Courtney Blue, right, members of the Syracuse School Advisory Committee reported on the work of the committee during the February 28 meeting of the Wawasee Kiwanis Club. The committee, composed of lay persons, teachers and students, have been at work for years studying the needs of building space for the elementary and middle school of Syracuse. The committee’s first task was to study the possibility of remodeling the present building. A company had been employed to study the possibility of remodeling the building to meet the needs for now and future growth. Another company submitted proposals for the construction of a new building. Both proposals were studied by the committee in light of costs and the projected needs for the classroom. The men stated Kosciusko County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state and Turkey Creek Township will experience a large growth in the next few years. The committee has arrived at recommendations in the light of this growth and the classroom space with costs to be involved. 11l ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL Wrapped $495 Carnations "■ Doz. || Smith Flower Shop 506 W.
