LOUISA'S LETTER

Dear Louisa. 1 am a very old lady, seventy years. My husband has been dead four years. We were the parents of seven children and we both loved them and also each other. We took them to church. Now I am not able to go to church but 1 do live for the Lord and love the gospel songs I hear over TV every Sunday. 1 don’t think it matters what kind of religion we have as long as we live right and love each other. I ask God to care for you. 1 have "many women friends everywhere in different towns and states. 1 read lots of letters from people. C.F. - N.C. Answer: Thank you, Mrs. C.F., for your nice letter. It is refreshing to hear Mulch berries Mulch strawberries now that temperatures have dropped to 20 degrees F. Check bulbs Check produce and tender bulbs in storage, and discard any that shows signs of decay such as mold or softening. Shriveling indicates insufficient relative humidity.

Christmas in the United States today

Although people may bemoan the passage of such charming Christmas customs as chopping down the Christmas tree and bringing it home on a sled, none the less there are still many delightful other rituals being observed today throughout the United States. In many a town and city, youngsters will be donning robes and cardboard wings to enact the Nativity story before friends and family in the annual Christmas pageant. Many churches today hold candlelight services as a highlight of the holiday season, with sacred music and Christmas carols performed by their choirs. Churches and organizations Dormant plants To protect newly-planted or tender perennials and bulbs, mulch with straw, chopped leaves or other organic material after plants become dormant. Add zest Add vest to your vegetables by cooking them with either chicken or beef bouillon cubes. This also reduces the calorie content.

of a couple who lived happily together for so many years and reared a Christian family. 1 enjoy some of the lovely gospel songs also. Good luck. Louisa Dear Louisa, Christmas is almost here and I think that people should stop and think what this day really means. It is the birthday of the Lord. Jesus Christ, who came among us to teach us to love one another and to rid ourselves of malice and resentment to others. I see so many people hurting themselves by not having a forgiving spirit towards others that I felt I must write these few words. Mrs. B. - Fl. Answer: I agree with you Mrs. B. that those people who can’t bring themselves to forgive others for what they consider rudeness or hurts are really doing themselves a great deal of harm. The persons who nurse hate in their hearts will eventually destroy themselves. Louisa Address letters: Louisa, Box 532. Orangeburg, S.C. 29115.

alike have made baskets of food for the less fortunate a Christmas tradition, and many make a practice of collecting toys for underprivileged youngsters. Although Americans may not be able to trek into the woods to chop down their own trees nowadays, what many are doing is much more conservationminded: displaying live Christmas trees in their homes for the holidays, then donating them to parks for replanting. Speaking of displays, today’s electric lights enable persons to create dazzling outdoor decorations during the holiday season. Neighborhoods now vie with one another to put on the most colorful, imaginative displays that often attract sightseers from miles around.

While we may complain about the increasing commercialization of Christmas, more and more Americans are taking the time and effort to make their holiday gifts. Door-to-door caroling may not be the practice today, but there are many church groups and clubs that make it a point to go caroling at hospitals and convalescent homes, bringing holiday cheer. Loads of snow Protect snow load susceptible shrubs such as junipers and arborvitae from extensive loads by tying their stems together with twine. Carefully remove heavy snow loads with a broom to prevent limb breakage.
