the machine when it wats purchased in 1982 was $909,000. The state university has been highly recognized the world over as remarkable, dedicated, and efficient in many medical fields, particularly in this department of oncology. The year of 1986 marked the 40th year anniversary of the entrance into cancer and other research in medicine by the Indiana Lions state organization, with more than four million dollars applied to cancer research alone at this university. This does not include research into diabetes, mental health, sight and hearing, and other areas. The entertainment for the evening was furnished by a group from the Northern Lakes Christian Church of North Webster, under the leadership of Karen Mitchell of Lake Tippecanoe. Several seasonal and appropriate vocal selections were appreciated by the club members and guests.
America is projected to increase 73 percent by 2020. About 55 percent of the world’s population currently live on the vast continent of Asia and its surrounding islands. In fact, more than one-third of the world’s people live in China and India! In 2020, about 51 percent of the world’s people will be Asians as population is predicted to increase 50 percent. Asian countries are truly a mixed bag from the population viewpoint. Bangladesh and Fakistan will double their population. Japan will increase only about 10 percent. China has strict birth control policies and has a projected increase of only 35 percent. India will increase 54 percent. Several Asian countries have achieved a reduction in population growth rates that few thought possible a few years ago. Additionally, agricultural productivity has improved dramatically in many Asian countries. Population headlines invariably stress the rapid increase in the population of some areas, coupled with dire warnings of mass starvation and disease. It is important, however, to keep in mind that such dire headlines have been printed regularly for the past 40-50 years. Changes have intervened in both population control and food production to push the catastrophe further into the future. Additionally, we will become increasingly aware that social and economic problems can be generated by too little population growth as well as too much. A declining productive work force and an increased portion of the aged will contribute to a different set of problems. In the U.S., for example, the shut down in population growth to less than one percent annually will make it easier to achieve lower unemployment rates. But it will also make social security and medicare problems more severe. If one wanted to worry about the possible implications of population projection in 2020, one could truly develop an incurable headache.’ But the ability of the human scene to adjust itself is tremendous and continuous — with or without government interference. Much can happen in 34 years. We can probably depend upon one development for sure: In 2020 new population projections will be made that will forecast dire consequences for this troubleprone globe! Contract to be awarded LOS ANGELES - Two California companies — Lockheed and Northrop — were chosen to design and build prototypes of a high-tech jet These prototypes will be pitted against each other in a fly-off competition in the 49905, with the winner getting a lucrative production contract for 750 of the planes worth between S4O billion and SSO billion.
