Some believe Negative: Television spots made the difference in two contests in the state. In the race for Secretary <X State between Evan Bayh and Robert Bowen, Bayh ran TV spets -stating he would change the auto license bureau system It will be interesting to see how Mr. Bayh will change the bureau. As Secretary of State his only dealing with the auto license bureau will be the same as yours and mine — just purchasing our license, plates. But the public apparently “bought his TV message. Another was in the Third District Congressional race Tom Ward, the Democrat candidate, had two TV spots. One showed him standing in front of a factory building, lamenting how jobs had left Indiana. There was vegetation growing in the plant and it apparently had no roof. If industry is going to move, it is a mystery how Mr. Ward will keep it from happening. Another TV spot showed him in a barnyard lamenting that the big city bankers were putting the squeeze on the farmers. I wonder if Mr. Ward had in mind his neighbors around Culver who lost their life savings in an investment firm that loaned to farmers. If television continues to run spots of this nature, should someone be held responsible for the truth? CLERK SCRAPS FISHING LICENSE DISTRIBUTION Kosciusko County Clerk Jean Weirick will no longer distribute fishing licenses to local dealers. Mrs. Weirick states that her department just doesn't have, the time to keep track of the licenses. This entails responsibility for distributing tjie licenses, collecting and forwarding the money to the state. Now individuals can purchase their hunting and fishing licenses in the clerk’s Other dealers will order their s directly from the state. HOPE THAT INVESTIGATION WOULD BE KEPT UNDER WRAPS. A rumor is that Warsaw Community School officials were hoping that the investigation reported to be underway by the FBI on one of the school corporation's consultants would not come to light. The reported investigation was blown into a full-fledged story by the Indianapolis Star. The report stated that William Day was being investigated in his dealings with architectural firms. Day. an Indiana University professor, has been used by the school board as a consultant in formulating plans for the $25,000,000 school building program. According to the Indianapolis paper. Day is alledged to have received funds from certain architectural firms. Distribution reports of the Warsaw Community School Cprp. published in July reveal a payment of $6,367.50 was made to Day for his services to the school district.

Letters to the editor
Presidential response given EDITOR S NOTE: The following letter was read and written by Travis Marsh. Wawasee High School Student Body President, to the Wawasee High Scfttxrf students and staff on Friday. Dec. 12. during the morning announcements. It was in response to the item written about Wawasee High School by Mark Weinstein in the December 10 issue of The Mail-Journal. Welcome to the Hawaiian Christmas Day! * First of ail, 1 hope we are all ready to face the Warsaw Alley Cats. Secondly. I would like to explain why I am having this sermon today. It was brought to my attention that there was quite an interesting article in The MailJournal. As of last night, I had not had a chance to read this article, but when I finally got the newspaper, I was quite upset first of all at the article. Its title was. “Wawasee’s version of silent night home basketball games." 1 quote directly from the article. “1 was amazed at the little support the student body and eider fans gave Mr. Goshert and his team " Due to competition in speech last weekend at Bradley University, neither Drew or myself had a chance to attend this game. But. there has not been a game I have attended yet that could have been given that title. Yes. there are times that spirit has dropped off the scale. Then, the final draw was made by the author of the article? It states, quote. “I would guess that Warsaw will bring more fans and make more noise than the Wawasee faithful. If that happens. what is the use in playing at Wawasee." We. Wawasee as a whole school, have been maliciously marred and taunted. I know for a fact that we may look innocent, but deep down we are the most feisty, rambunctious people in the state of Indiana. I may talk big but I also carry a Smith & Wesson or a big stick Yes, students, faculty and staff. I have today with me the big stick and I'm ready to deal a hefty blow to the Warsaw Tiger Cubs, fans and all. Today, with the threat of attack. 1 have declared war on those Warsaw people who smell of elderberry. We have the chance to pre-game it today, but tonight the people of the press and the people of Warsaw shall be burdened with the all out spirit Wawasee possesses. Tonight you have the chance to be so hyper that you will have aged 10 years. As far as 1 can tell, any Tiger on our territory is fair prey. Tonight we should be ready to yell, holler, and get wild For good reason, too; there is a dance after the game Why. Warriors always dance after a victory of course. So in summary, tonight at the game let's have our Hawaiian Christmas garb on. Also, anything that is green and gold! Head bands, handkerchiefs, makeup, even a green and gold attitude will work, but we must put an end to this promiscuous ridicule, or whatever, and show the press and the people of Warsaw we mean business. Good luck to our basketball team! Remember, the big stick and the Green and Gold! - Travis C. Marsh President. Student Body They should be on their own Dear Editor: 1 am infuriated over the Iran Contra situation. President Reagan sent word to the hostages to come home, he said in one speech on TV Do the media and
press speak or print this—never. Relatives and people in our country commanding Bring the hostages home.’ Did people thing Iran would settle for food and clothing — you are kidding! Haven’t heard from the freed hostages. Do they feel guilty! They put our country in jeopardy The media and press, mostly liberals, are making the situation a drama. Seems as though its',.. if you do —... if you don’t situation for our president. There should be a law where people are in dangerous areas, they are on their own after being notified to leave. It is costly and degrading to our president and country MM Syracuse Something to shout about Dear Editor: 1 read with a great amount of interest Mark Weinstein s “On The Mark” column in last week's paper. Being in attendance at the Prairie Heights game. 1. too, was surprised at the near calm in the gymnasium. The W’arrior basketball team is something to shout about. The Warsaw contest, both the JV and varsity, were exciting and the Wawasee fans were fantastic. Let’s hope the enthusiasm continues throughout the season. The teams deserve our support. It’s very possible for them to follow the path our great football team has paved for them Let's bring back the “Warrior Pride.” by cheering and supporting the team along to more victories. • Sincerely. Richard B. Essig 64 N. Shore Drive Syracuse Hit and run Dear Editor: Whatever possesses someone to smash someone else’s ear and just take off? I went outside to leave to take my daughter to kindergarten and there my car was with the front tires up on the sidewalk, shoved 25 feet from where 1 parked. Debris from my car. and from the person’s who hit my car. was lying in the street How inconsiderate and unfeeling. of you not to stop or even to leave a note. Accidents do happen. and I realize at about 6:45 in the morning you were probably on your way to work, and in a hurry but. have a little respect tor other people If you would have only left a note! It would have been common courtesy to at least have let me know you smashed the rear end of my car No matter how bad I felt telling someone 1 hit their car. 1 wouldn’t feel as bad as if I left the scene without telling the owner You know, you'll need a police report to turn your claim, to fix your car. so what do you do now'* Add lying to hit and run'* It’s bad enough to wreck someone's only means of transportation and leave it for someone else to handle. Is this the way you handle all your responsibilities'* If so. 1 feel sorry for you. If anyone has any information on this accident please either call the Syracuse Police Department or myself (457-5164 >. 1 would really appreciate it. if you saw this person hit my car. if you would report it The accident happened Mon day, Dec. 8. at about 6:45 a m. at 413 South Main Street. Syracuse This is the old Harris Funeral Home Diana (Dee) Graber Victims of WW II The civilian victims of World War II outnumbered the military casualties, says National Geographic.
CTB contracts private firm for waste disposal A private firm has been contracted by CTB Inc , Milford, to dispose waste coolant from the plant. CTB had been searching for a more economical way to dispose of the waste and ad&ressed its concerns to the Milford Town Board, but was refused the option of discharging the material into the town's sewer system after utilities superintendent Dallas Winchester's recommendation. While the disposal is now handled by a contracted company, a chemist hired by the Milford plant has suggested that another contractor be hired.
