By JOHN SCHANBACHER Guest Feature Writer This category has so many possibilities. There are ever so many different kinds of banks. Some of the older ones were what we call mechanical banks. You x put coins in it and it performs before your eyes. This was done with springs in the right places. Then there were iron banks of all descriptions. There were animals, buildings, and vehicles. All that I have mentioned so far have been reproduced. So one has to be wary of these “repos.” Another source of banks were places of business using banks as an advertising gimmick. I’ve seen replicas of a potato, a battery, milk bottle, all being utilized as a bank. All of these had advertising on them. Still another source was your own personal banking place. Even today, there are banks for sale if you deposit x number of dollars. One of the most popular is the “piggy” bank. Originally, this was a bank made of ceramic. When it was as full as possible, then it had to be smashed to State of Indiana, on this 4th day of December, 1986. ATTEST: J. D. reclaim the money. Now the piggy banks have been made of glass and other materials. I fear that some piggy banks had money shook out of them by their owners or others. It was a slow process, but sure. Some of the younger generation don’t bother to save pennies. I’ve seen several thrown away and in waste baskets, while others have huge banks that they can continually save all excess coins. An example of this is a large water jug. They stand three feet tall and would be quite heavy when filled with coins. Years ago, when some of our hanking facilities failed, people would use fruit jars or other containers and bury them , in their ANSWERS: ACROSS: DOWN: 1 Adar 1 Ala 5 If so 2 Dos 9 Eld 3 Actuated 12 Loco 4 Roast 13 Ness 5 Inca 14 Voo 6 Fellow 15 Asta 7 SSE 16 Cleavage 8 Osage 18 Usual 9 Evan 20 Genes 10 Loge 21 Beats II Does 23 Open 17 Venue 25 Act 19 USSR 26 Sews 21 Bash 28 Ursa 22 Echo 32 Shears 24 Pssst 34 Sleets 27 Esne 36 Hods 29 Reverent 37 Nota 30 Stir 39 Vis 31 Asst. 40 Seem 33 Assay 42 Inert 35 Lait 44 Brian 38 Omened 47 Ester 41 Enjoy 49 Lady Jane 43 Nevus 51 Vein 44 Blat 54 Ago 45 Rage 55 Oder 46 Idol 56 Undo 48 Sera 57 Tel 50 Ado 58 Yoda 52 Ido 59 Stow 53 Now NAPPANEE NEW HOURS: Mon.-Thurs. 8-8 Fri. 8-5:30 Sat. 8-4 SPOTLIGHT (10) • 86 CHEV.
