Warriors swim past LaPorte SYRACUSE — Wawasee’s boys’ swim team planned on a tough meet with LaPorte, Monday, Nov. 24. Meanwhile, LaPorte, a traditional powerhouse in swimming, was hoping for a close meet. But neither team’s expectations surfaced as the Warriors led from start to finish in their impressive 106-66 victory over the Slicers. “They were not as tough as expected,’’ said Wawasee’s Tim Caldwell aboutJLaPorte. “But we had a good meet? right down the line.” J In the rout. Wawasee captured seven first place finishes, two by Steve Rozow and another pair by Brad Smith. Wawasee’s 200 medley relay team, consisting of Paul Morel, Scott Rozow, Matt Fryback, and Steve Rozow started the Warriors’ victory effort with the first victory of the night. Their 1:47.39 time defeated LaPorte’s second place effort by six seconds. Wawasee added a third place in the event. . After LaPorte gained its first victory in the 200 freestyle, the Warriors ran off five straight wins. Smith started Wawasee’s first place explosion with a 2:11.24 time in the 200 individual medley. Fryback added three additional points with his third place finish as Wawasee started pulling away from the Slicers. After Steve Rozow narrowly defeated LaPorte’s Darron Tucker in the 50 freestyle, Wawasee put the meet away by sweeping the diving competition. David Keener won the event with 242.55 points, while Ken Ferguson finished second with a 165.90 score, and David Neterer was third with a 147.55 score. With the Warriors leading by 34 points, 64-30, Smith and Rozow gave LaPorte no chance at slicing their lead. Smith won the 100 butterfly with a : 55.90 effort while Rozow captured the 100 freestlye in:52.43. From there, Wawasee coasted to the win. Packer leads Grace to easy win

With Grace leading by 10,44-34, Packer scored three straight field goals before Spring Arbor could score again. Then, with the Lancers on the verge of blowing the visitors out for the second time this season, they did. Leading 50-36, the Lancers’ leading three-point shooter, Joe Goeglein, went to work. Goeglein. a former Fairfield Falcon, canned the perimeter shot, and the visitors from Michigan had no chance of recovering. Ship-Shape, behind Brian Horvath’s 42 points, kept its four game wirthing streak alive with a convincing 108-42 thrashing of Flex Steel. Phil Meier scored 14 points to lead Flex Steel, now 1-3. In other games, North American Wire Die remained unbeaten (4-0) as Jay Wysong scored 18 points in North American’s 78-61 victory over Pilchers, now 1-3. Greg Lawson led Pilchers’ attack with 18 points.

In the final game of the evening, Dana Corporation (2-2) used Dave Mehling’s 19 points to propel them past Syracuse Rubber. 79-22. Arlen Brenneman led Syracuse Rubber, now 0-4, with six points.
