Fox picks North Carolina

Warsaw’s Rick Fox, a 6-7 allstate and prep all-America basketball player, made his college choice official Wednesday, Nov. 12, when he signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of North Carolina. Fox averaged 21.1 points a game and 12.2 rebounds last season. In choosing the Atlantic Coast Conference school, Fox felt the school’s reputation and coaching staff was the difference. “I decided with the rich tradition of the school, the fact that coach (Dean) Smith is an excellent coach, with the excellent program and certain situations, it was the best place to maximize my potential,” said Fox. Fox decided on North Carolina over Georgia Tech, and two Big Ten schools, Indiana and Purdue. The “certain situations” Fox was referring to were Smith’s coaching record at North Carolina (579-171 in 25 years), and the academic emphasis.
