Fall classes at the youth center
Session II of the adult exercise class has begun at the Lakeland Youth Center in Syracuse. Morning classes will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9-10 a.m. until December 19. Conrad. The Lakeland Youth Center will also be featuring an oil painting class this fall. The class will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 18, and be taught by Barbara Riley from Riley Silk in Fort Wayne. Ages six through 12 years will meet from 4-6 p.m. Ages 13 through adult will meet from 7-9 p.m. No painting experience is necessary
to join the class. Youths are reminded that the center will be hosting a junior high Thanksgiving dance on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. For more information concerning classes and activities at the Lakeland Youth Center call 457-3055. The Lakeland Youth Center is a United Way Agency.
Lugar announces 10th annual symposium
More than 600 outstanding high school students from across Indiana will participate in the 10th annual Dick Lugar Symposium for Tomorrow’s Leaders on Saturday, Dec. 6., at the University of Indianapolis. Lugar will begin the day-long program with an address to the students on national and world affairs. Discussion groups will be formed by the students in order to debate various perspectives on any of 10 issues areas. Debate will take place under the leadership of major state and national advocates who will present the pros and cons of the given subjects. This year’s issues are drugs,

WHS celebrates Key Club Week The Key Club of Wawasee High School is celebrating International Key Club Week, November 2-8, said club president Marvin Whitacre. The purpose of the week is to explain the service work performed by Key Clubs in their schools and communities. To celebrate, the club will host a project called “Lift the Leaves,” says Whitacre. “It involves assisting elderly or handicapped citizens with the raking of leaves,” continued Whitacre. Key clubbers worldwide share their time and talent and have a positive influence on their community. Key Club International, with more than 123,000 members in 3,500 clubs in 10 countries is a Kiwanis sponsored high school service organization. The Wawasee club currently has 30 members. Last year, worldwide, club members performed more than six million community service hours during their school year.

Information included how cotton was raised and processed into thread to make clothes. A live cotton plant was sent from a friend to Mrs. Landrigan’s who lives in Albuquerque. NM. Inside of the tunnel are bits and pieces of materials that the students try to identify by touching. Included in the samples are every thing from cellophane to sandpaper. Music student of the month
Milford Elementary School has chosen its student of the month for music. Crista Dippon was chosen for September and David Speicher for October. Crista Dippon is the daughter of Don and Kathy Beer of Milford. She is in the fifth grade

Fifty seven students were named to the first quarter honor roll at Syracuse Middle School, with 16 of those making the distinguished list. Distinguished honor roll members include. Crista played the part of Maid Marian in the fourth grade spring musical, “Robin Hood.” She had to use her singing, dancing and acting skills in this role. Jason Schlabach, Candi Solina, Juli Storey, Tiffany Titus, Lisa Wight Eighth grade — Mike Acton, Jodi Finlinson, Lori Gargett, Celia Impey, Denny Owens, Anne Sims, and Ingrid Stuckman. Wowosee display to honor veterans Wawasee High School will be festuring a display entitled “Moments In Military History” in honor of Veterans Day. The display will be on Monday, Nov. 10, between 8 a m. and 3 p.m. in the social studies area of the school. The military exhibit will feature uniforms, armaments, flags and other memorabilia from World War I through the Vietnam Conflict. Also on display will be an audio visual of documentary film. “Moments In Military History” is open to the public, free of charge.
David Speicher, is the son of Ned and Deb Speicher of Milford. He is in the fourth grade his year. David says he absolutely loves to sing and that this “love” has gained him solo work in school programs. He has also sung with his family in church. David’s other interests include all sports. He was the winner of his age group in the basketball “Hot Shot” competition last year. He is looking forward to this year in music because as a fojurth grader, he will be involved in the Spring Music Festival at Wawasee High School in March as well as the fourth grade musical production in May.
