The joys of football By PETE FRITCHIE WASHINGTON, D.C. — One of the joys of football is that luck, missed calls, injuries and weather play major roles in deciding many games. Missed calls are fewer since the NFL wisely decided to use TV replay. What is being learned this season is that some coaches don’t realize when they should cal for a TV replay. The Jets, who won a thriller from Miami 51-46 earlier in the season, missed an opportunity to win in regulation time when their coach wasn't able to see from the sidelines that a Miami kickoff returner had fumbled. He didn’t call for a TV replay and Miami kept the ball. (Later in the game officials also missed a fumble by the Jets, who kept the ball, en route to their winning TD.i Tampa Bay used two interceptions and three fumble recoveries to beat Detroit the same day. So, in football, one never knows. Who would have thought the Raiders would start the season 0-3° Many picked them to win the Super Bowl.
