Kristina Golden is Sept. 13 - bride of Steven Landry
Kristina Golden, Syracuse, and Steven Landry, Nappanee, exchanged wedding vows in a 3 p.m. ceremony held September 13 at the Nappanee Missionary Church. Rev. David Engbright performed the double-ring ceremony. Parents of the couple are Louise and Douglas Golden, Syracuse, and Sandy Landry, Plymouth, and the late Mr. Landry. The altar was decorated with burgundy and pink rose flower arrangements along with a unity candle. Fred Huntsburger served as organist. The bride chose a white silk gown appliqued with rose buds and featured a stand up lace collar. Her veil had appliqued rose buds attached. She carried burgundy and pink roses. Lori Stump, Syracuse, sister of the bride, was matron of honor Bridesmaids were Melanie Brewer, New Jersey; Kim Edwards, Bremen; and Robin Lehman, Syracuse. Tiffany Stump, Syracuse, niece of the bride, was flower girl and Bradly Skaggs, Plymouth, was ring bearer. The attendants’ gowns were mauve with rose buds and lace collars. Couple from the Netherlands visiting in Lakeland area
Garret and Greet Leuverink, Neede, Netherlands, have been visiting in the Lakeland area and are hosted by two area families. Mr. and Mrs. Varner Chance. North Webster and Mr and Mrs. John Detwiler, Syracuse. The Leuverinks became acquainted with Indiana through the Sounds of Hope in 1976 and 1976. Leuverink drove the bus for the group while on their European tour. In 1986 he organized the Neede concert in the Dutch Reformed Church in Neede. While in the North WebsterSyracuse area the Leuverinks are seeing numerous attractions including the Mennonite Relief Sale, The Holiday Inn and Greencroft Retirement Center, all of Goshen; wading in Lake Michigan at Dunes State Park; Shipshewana antique and flea market; Miller’s Cider Mill; Bonneville Mill; and Yoder’s Cheese factory. They have received guided tours through Wawasee High

ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT — Betty Lawson, Syracuse, and C. D. Lawson, McAllen, Texas, announce the engagement of their son, Kent Edwin Lawson to Joyce Ann Neiderhiser. The couple is planning a April 25 wedding in Alice Milan Chapel on the Northwestern University Campus, Evanston, 111. The bridegroom-elect is a 1980 graduate of Wawasee High School and a graduate of Ball State University in saxophone performance. He is currently living in Chicago, 111., and working as a systems operator for Gofen and Glossberg, an investment counseling firm, while pursuing his masters degree in jazz performance from DePaul University. Lawson is also performing professionally in the Chicago area. The bride-elect is a 1980 graduate of Marion High School and received her bachelor’s degree at Ball State University in piano performance. She has received her master's degree in piano performance and pedogogy from Northwestern University. She is currently on the faculty at Lewis University and College of Dupage, teaching applied students, class piano and pedagogy. She is the organist/accompanist for New Life Lutheran Church. Silver Thimbles gives SSOO for students' needs The October 6 meeting of the Silver Thimble Club of the Milford Apostolic Christian Church was held at the home of Mrs. Robert Lee Beer, r 2, Milford, with Mrs. Carlton Beer assisting the hostess. Mrs. John Martin, Jr., president, opened the evening’s program. The club collect was repeated. Mrs. Harold Higginbotham gave the secretary’s report. Mrs. Steven Beer of the gift committee told of the gifts given by the club. It was voted to give SSOO to the Milford Elementary School for the students’ needs. Sewings have resumed at the church hall beginning on October 2 and will continue until spring. Members took staples and canned food to the meeting for the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis. Mrs. Lee Beer gave a resume of the house as she had a night’s lodging there when her son was hospitalized. “Happy Anniversary’’ was sung to Mrs. Carlton Beer and Mrs. Ray Haab and “Happy Birthday” was sung to Mrs.. Carlton Beer. Devotional leader Mrs. Richard Schlipf read from “Streams in the Desert,” by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman. The hymn “How Great Thou Art” was sung. The 15 guests were served an apple dessert, cheese ball and crackers from a table set in an autumn motif. Halloween candy was passed to those present. Mrs. Schlipf won a bittersweet wreath from the hostesses.
Meals for older Americans
Meals for Older Americans are served each day at the following locations: The Scout Cabin, Syracuse; the Pierceton Community Building; Mentone Community Room in the fire station; the Retired Tigers Center, 320 W. Main, Warsaw; and Packerton Community Building. Meals for Older Americans is for persons 60 years or older and is a chance to meet new friends and enjoy hot, nutritional meals. The sites are opened several hours each day including noon for programs. Meals for Older Americans is not associated with welfare but is for the promotion for better health for the older population. Donations are accepted for the meals. The site directors request all persons planning on attending the meals to make reservations by 1 p.m. the day prior to attending.
