Two victories, one loss for swimmers
Tne Wawasee Varsity Swim Team has been competing well all season and especially since its first place win in the LaPorte In vitational Belays on September 13 4 Warsaw fairs well At the West Noble Invitational held on Saturtfay. Sept 20, the Warsaw girls' cross country team rag away with the event, finishing with five runners in the top 14 places Competing against 13 other schools, Warsaw finished in first with a score of 46-75 over 16th ranked Columbia City Homestead came in third with 104 points Wawasee took last place with 413 points Top finisher for Wawasee was Marvie Coy in 46th place ‘East Noble won with 89 points in the boys' cross country meet New. Haven came in second with 114 points and Carroll followed in third with 184 points Wawasee placed eighth with a total of 239 points. David Abebeoi Prairie Heights took first with a time of 16.01 and Matt Jones of Wawasee followed with a time of 16:20 to take a close second Finishing in third was Jason Douglas a freshman at Wawasee with a time of 16 21 Opting to run the varsity rave. Douglas, would have clearly been the top freshman winner; which was won bv Andv Perkins of East Noble in 17:59 Vuong Reed of Wawasee finish ed 13th in the freshman race Wawasee adds two losses to record The NarthWood High School girls' volleyball team remained unbeaten,>o, with a 15-4,15-0 victory over Wawasee Thursday. Sept 18. at Wawasee. North Wood's J V team also won, 15 3. 15-11 On Tuesday. Sept 23. Wawasee lost to Whitko. 13-5. 10-5. at Whitko Leading players for Wawasee were Ann \itaniemi and Steif Jamiel. each with eight service points. Jenni Gilmore helped her team with 24 assists and Jennifer Morgan with 23. Vitaniemi had 13 spikes, four of which were killed, and Amy Con roy had 10 with two killed Wawasee JV lost to Whitko. 13-15. 13-15 The varsity record stands at 4-3 and J V at 3-4 The next match will be held at Wawasee on Thursday. The team defeated Elkhart Memorial 89 to 83 at home on September 16. The medley relay was won by Wawasee team members Danielle Iwankowitsch, Cindi Guimond. Tanya Penanbwski and Julie Schmahl with a time of 2:09.6. In the 200 yard freestyle. Memorial placed first, Stad Boles was second and Stef Berkey finished third. tindi Guimond won the 200 vard individual medley in a time of 2:34 3 and Jennifer Titus placed third. Memorial won first place in the 50 yard freestyle, but Sherry Payne came in second and Danielle Iwankowitsch placed third. Stef Berkey won the butterfly with a time of 1:12.1 ahead of Memorial finishers in second and third place. Memorial came back with a win in the 100 yard Syracuse Rubber holds tournament The Syracuse Rubber Products golf league tournament was held on Saturday. Sept. 20. at Waw asee Golf Course These players participating in the tourney were Gary Price. Bob Carwile. Tim Darr. Fred Weisser, Louie Byland. Jack Ridings, and Harry Hostetler. Winning honors for the day were Ryland, closest to the pin and low gross; Darr, longest drive in the fairway; and Ridings, low net. Bike-a-thon set in Milford Bill Little, chairman for the Milford St. Jude Children's Research . Hospital Wheels for Life Bike-a-thon. today announced Bob Groves is a key volunteer for the October 4event. Groves, r 2 Milford, will supervise rider recruitment and follow-up. He is a long-time Milford resident. "Bob and other volunteers being enlisted, excited about the Bike-a-thon which benefits kids with cancer, are determined to make this ride a community party They're inviting everybody to in the fun." Little said. "St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is the largest cancer research institution in the world. She was followed by Memorial in second place and Tanya Penanowski in third. Wawasee took first and second in the 100 yard breaststroke, with Cindi Guimond winning with a time of 1:17.1 and Julie Schmahl finishing second. Wawasee placed second and third in the freestyle relay, with Memorial taking first place. In diving. Julie Gunn placed third behind Memorial, which won both first and second places. Junior high cross country team is sixth The Wawasee Junior High cross country team (consisting of runners from Milford. North Webster, and Syracuse junior highs) took sixth place honors among 20 teams Saturday. Sept. 20. at the West Noble Invitational. Top finishers for the harriers included: Eric Streby, 10th, 11:00; Scott Wheat. 15th. 11:44; Matt Johnson. 33rd. 11:41; Spencer Long. 41st. 11:44; Angie Garner. 101st. 12:40. and Jason Schlabach. 121st. 13:06. All six runners had their best career times, running among a pack of 139 runners. In the junior high reserve race Gina Minton led Wawasee with an outstanding time of 13:02. placing 31st.
