Wednesday Club opens fall season

The Wednesday Afternoon Club initiated its 1986-1987 club year on Wednesday, Sept. 10, with a luncheon meeting in a Syracuse restaurant. The business meeting and program were conducted in the home of Lucille Searfoss, president. During the business meeting a donation was made to the local children’s library in memory of Ruth Rapp, a former memDei. Alice Johnston presented a paper “The First 85 years of WednesMobile Meals drivers Volunteer drivers for Syracuse Mobile Meals have been scheduled for the week of September 22-26. Sept. 14, at the community building for fun and fellowship. A carry-in dinner was served at 1 p m. The tables were decorated in a theme of September flowers and back to school supplies. In the absence of the president. Marie Stephenson presided. The meeting opened with the pledge to the flag. Happy Birthday was sung to two members. Mrs. Stephenson read a poem entitled "You Can't Be Poor If You Have A Friend'' by Doris Faulhaber. Election of officers for the coming year will be held at the next meeting which will be a potluck dinner on October 12? Martha Wuthrick and Erma Chambers will be in charge of table decorations. .Mrs. Wuthnch won tne door prize Games were enjoyed and everyone won a prize. There were 32 members and one guest present. Still time to order history book The Kosciusko County Historical Society is busy putting the finishing touches on the new Kosciusko County history book. The book committee, made up of members from the Historical Society and Genealogical Secubn. is reviewing the final proofs bofore the publication actually go&s to press. A publication date of mid-November is planned. The committee will accept orders at the pre-publication date until September 20. The Histoneal Society wants to have all orders received by this date to determine the actual printing. The new publication contains over .50 pages of information about the cities, towns and townships, and brief histories by churches, civic groups and organizations. Another feature in the book will be histories of institutions and businesses never before published Family biographies are a major part of this 375-400 page hardbound book. It features the courthouse, embossed in a silver medallion on the cover and will contain over 375 pages of history printed on durable paper. Dear Louisa, I am a boy of fifteen and I live with my parents and we have a big yard. I cut the grass and in this way I ear pat of my allowance. Some of our neighbors have difficulty in getting yard men and I would be glad to earn some extra money by cutting their grass. The bride-elect graduated from Wawasee High School in 1985 and attended one year at (LABI) Latin American Bible Institute, San Antonio, Texas. The groom-elect attended West Campt is in San Antonio and graduated from Latin American Bible Institute in 1984. He is a full time evangelist for the Districts of the Latin Gulf under the Assemblies of God. A November 22 wedding at El Sender De la Cruz in Santonio is planned. LMBA held monthly meeting The Leesburg Merchants and Business Association held its monthly meeting on Tuesday. Sept. 9, at Jackie’s Styling Center. The three new board of directors members are Rober/Barth, Jr., Automotive Unlimited; Paul Gabbitt, GTI; and Jackie Greuter, Jackie’s Styling Center The LMBA’s main topic of business was the planning and organizing of the second annual Candleria, which will be held on Sunday, Dec. 21. To speak at Nutrition Site On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Jenny Marner will present a legal services program on a timely topic at the nutrition site located at the Scout Cabin in Syracuse. The program will start at 11:15 followed by dinner at noon. Reservations are a must.

25TH ANNIVERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Vultaggio. El Paso, Texas, will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in Andover, Mass., where Vultaggio is temporarily assigned. Vultaggio and the former Judith Kline, were married on October 7, 1961, in Syracuse. Vultaggio is an electronics engineer for Raytheon Company. The couple has one daughter, Barbara, attending Indiana University ; and one son, Duane, attending the University of Texas, El Paso, Texas.

Kim Coy hew Legion Auxiliary president

The installation of officers for the 1986-87 year was held at the Milford Community Building Tuesday evening, Sept. 16, for Ancil Geiger American Legion Auxiliary unit 226. It was a joint fleeting with the Legionnaires of post 226. There were eight Legion members and 20 auxiliary members present. Two charter members of the unit were present, Kathryn Iva Coy from Leesburg and Mabie Blanchard Ulery from New Pans'They have been members for 60 years. The meeting was opened in the usual form by President Treva Borkholder. Chaplain Glennis Stump gave the prayer. The flags were advanced. Pledge of Allegiance repeated and one stanza of the National Anthem was sung by all. Installing Officer Marjorie Coy was escorted to the front by Installing Sergeant-at-arms Betty Witman. Out going President Treva Borkholder gave a resume of Mrs. Coy’s work with the unit through the years. The incoming officers were retired to the ante room and after being properly introduced to the members by Mrs. Witman, they were escorted to the front of the podium and installed for each office as follows: President — Kimberly Coy First vice president — Marjorie Coy Second vice president — Donna Fisher Secretary — Carole Conrad Treasurer — Beatrice Ruch Chaplain — Helen Rassi Historian — Myrtle Felkner Sergeant-at-arms — Mary Ann Dowty Executive boani — Glennis Stump and Beulah Felkner Junior past president — Treva Borkholder Kimberly Coy was presented with the gavel, her symbol of office. Dowty. President Coy then thanked the unit members for electing her and asked for their support for the coming year. Mrs. Borkholder conducted the rest of the meeting. She welcomed the men from the Legion. Pat Ritter, commander, wished everyone a very successful year. Russell Ruch reported that the flags are on hand for Memorial Day 1987. The Legionnaires retired to another room for their meeting and Mrs. Borkholder continued with the unit affairs. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Treasurer Ruch read the yearly audit report with all funds balancing. Kim Coy and Marge Coy will attend the presidents and secretaries conference to be held in Indianapolis on October 4 and 5. Betty Scott announced the past president parley will meet at her home on October 8. Kelly Brooks, Girls’ Stater, will give her report of her stay at Indiana State University at the October meeting. The flags were retired by Betty Scott and Betty Zimmerman with Marge Coy as acting sergeant-at-arms Mrs. Stump gave the closing prayer. Mrs. Borkholder thanked everyone for making her two years as president successful and said she did enjoy working with all of her officers, chairmen and members. She closed the meeting in the usual form. Refreshments of cookies, rolls and doughnuts with coffee and iced tea were served to Legionnaires and auxiliary members by Betty Scott and Betty Zimmerman. Social time was spent discussing the old times with the two charter members.

Warsaw to hold Fall Fest Fall Fest will be held this year in Warsaw on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19 and 20. on the courthouse square. There will be crafts, food, and fun each day. On Friday evening, there will be a dog show and contest and a cat contest. On Saturday, there will be a Teddy Bear Revue, a Bass Masters casting contest, a wet laundry contest, and a liar’s contest. Everyone is invited downtown to enjoy the festivities. Meals for Older Americans are served each day at the following locations: The Scout Cabin. Syracuse; the Pierceton Community Building; Mentone Community Room in the fire station; the Retired Tigers Center, 320 W. Main. Warsaw; and Packerton Community Building Meals for Older Americans is for persons 60 years or older and is a chance to meet new friends and enjoy hot, nutritional meals. The sites are opened several hours each day including noon for programs. Meals for Older Americans is not associated ikith welfare but is for the promotion for better health for the older population. Donations are accepted for the meals. The site directors request all persons planning on attending the meals to make reservations by I p.m. the day prior to attending.
