Baldwins leave Mali work

The following letter is from Chuck and Debby Baldwin, who, with their daughter Julie, have served United World Missions as missionaries in Mali, Africa. Chuck is the son of Charles and Naomi Baldwin, r 3 Syracuse: Another page in the story of our lives is being turned. As many may know, we have resigned from United World Mission effective July 31. This decision* was made after much prayer and counseling. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with my eye.” (Ps 32:8) It is with some sadness that we leave our work in Mali. We will miss the people and the ministries we believe we could have been helpful to. But we are better equipping ourselves, biblically and cross-culturally, through seminary. In the future we may look toward missions more closely associated with our Brethren/Mennonite background.

Our lives have been blessed to know each one of you and to share the same dream of sharing Christ in Africa. We thank you for your faithfulness in prayer, encouragement and giving over our past years as UWM missionaries. Without you we could not have gone and would not have stayed. Thanks so very much! Thinking over our past six years we are reminded of God’s abundant provisions. He and you have supported us through many joyful, sometimes sad, difficult and rewarding times. We remember them well; and scripture verses that meant so much during those times. Let us share: Raising support, packing barrels, saying good-byes — French language studies in Switzerland. In Los Angeles one night a woman who lived alone heard a strange noise outside her window. Peeking through the curtains, she saw a man trying to force his way into her apartment. Hurrying to the phone, she dialed.the police. To her despair she heard a voice say, “I’m sorry. The lines are busy. Please call again.” That is never the case with our Lord. David testified in Psalm 34:15, “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.”

E*eep in the heart of every person is the basic instinct to call upon God in times of need. Just as babies cry for their mothers when needs arise, so believers call upon God in times of difficul ties and dangers. The God who gave us the instinct of prayer is always ready to come to our rescue when we pray. God is never too busy to pay personal attention to you. His lines are never jammed, you can always get through. He promises you, “Call unto Me, and I will answer thee.”
