Emery Kintner, pastor of the North Webster Church of the Brethren. Finney, of Plymouth, coordinated shipment of the two loads of hay for Church World Service of the District Office of the Church of the Brethren of Northern Indiana. Use of the semis, each of which held close to 400 bales, was donated, with the drivers expecting to pick up a return load to pay their expenses. Rev. Kintner commented, “There is a joy in helping others which was apparent as area farmers loaded the hay. Our church is oriented toward service to others and we are thankful to the farmers for their donations of hay arid labor.’’

Calvary Church to hold auction

Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse will hold an all-church auction on Saturday, Aug. 9, beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until all merchandise has been disposed of. Many contributions have been made by members and friends of thecfrurch, including a number of antique items. Included are an early 1900 Raymond cabinet grand piano bench, antique dishes and vases, a pictorial book of World War I, an oil painting and a water color by local artist Betty Appenzeller, furniture, a record collection and many other items. All donations to this auction are appreciated. However, the committee requests there be no donations of clothing unless it is of antique vintage.

Bethel Women's Fellowship

The Women’s Fellowship of Bethel Church in Milford met last Thursday evening at England’s Restaurant in Milford for their annual night out. There were 41 members and guests present. Bible school scheduled Vacation Bible school will be held at Quaker Haven Friends Church on Dewart Lake from August 4 through 8. Bible school sessions will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. each day at the church grounds located on EMS Lane 16 on the east side of Dewart lake.

Arlene Cory gave the prayer before the meal and presented to Rosetta Miller a corsage and a boutonniere for her husband, Ralph. The Millers will be moving to Florida in the near future. After dinner, Arlie Waggy presented a slide program on the 50 states which included a collection of slides of state capitol buildings. To close the meeting, the group sang “My Country tis of Thee” and "America, the Beautiful” with guitar accompaniment by Hazel Vanlaningham and Neal Cory.
