Conference to honor broadcaster

In honor of the late Dr. Clarence Wesley Jones, cofounder of HCJB World Radio, the Winona Lake Bible Conference will include a memorial service for the missionary radio pioneer. A special program will be presented Thursday, July 17, commemorating Dr. Jones, who died April 29, at age 85. Leading the week-long conference July 12-18, will be HCJB World Radio president, Dr. Ron Cline. “We have lost a great missionary statesman,” says Dr. Cline. “He may have been the last of the pioneer missionaries who spear-headed evangelism in this generation. “Clarence Jones was a man of vision and a man of commitment to that vision regardless of adversity. He possessed those qualities needed for expanding God’s kingdom that are hard to find in people today.” Together with the late Dr. Reuben E. Larson, Dr. Jones pioneered missionary radio broadcasting on Christmas Day, 1931, by transmitting gospel and cultural programs from a renovated sheep shed with a tiny 250-watt transmitter. At that time there were only six radio receivers in all of Ecuador. Despite the station’s humble beginnings, the founders called their five-man operation World Radio Missionary Fellowship, Inc., which has now expanded to more than one million watts of transmitting power, and broadcasts in 13 major languages from its international shortwave

Praise ye the name of the Lord; praise him, O ye servants of the Lord. Ye that stand in the House of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God, Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant. For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Is'ra-el for his peculiar treasure For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did he in heaven, and -in earth, in the seas, and all deep places. He causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries. Psalm 135:1-7 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:20-22
