Mylin returns to defend Flotilla Race title

Evansville picks Darr as Most Valuable Swimmer

Jennifer Darr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Darr of Syracuse, has recently been chosen the Most Valuable Swimmer at the University of Evansville for the 1985-86 season. Darr set four individual records during the regular season. During the North Star Conference meet, an NCAA Division I league, Darr placed first in the 200-yard backstroke, second in the 400-yard individual medley and took another second in the 100-yard backstroke. She was also a member of four relay teams that set four new records at that meet. In addition, Darr was the only female on the Purple Aces to cap-

Darr is a 1983 graduate of Wawasee High School, where some of her swimming records still stand. She attended Vincennes University for tow years. She was selected as Rookie of the Year as a freshman and won the Mental Attitude Award as a sophomore. Darr was also an AllAmerican swimmer in the NJCAA for two seasons. Darr will be a senior, majoring in criminal justice at Evansville.

South Shore Ladies hold Guest Day

The South Shore Ladies Golf League held its annual “Guest Day’’ on Tuesday, June 24. Participants enjoyed a day of golf and later had lunch in the club dining room, which was decorated with a Christmas tree and several holiday furnishings. Later, winners were given giftwrapped presents from Santa Claus. They were: Bobbie Case, Katie Williamson, Janet Hays, Pat Simons and Betty Kline. Special prizes went to Pat Simons for closest to pin; Joan Gray for longest drive; and door prizes were claimed by Joan Kuntz and Lois Schearer.

Swim club takes third

The Wawasee Swim Club claimed third place in the Columbia City Old Settlers Invitational last Saturday. Other clybs competing were Auburn, Kendallville YMCA, Norwell, Warsaw, Columbia City, Fort Wayne Blackhawk and Fort Wayne Glen Aqua. Individual high point winners were Aaron Kryder (8 and under boys), Andy Kryder (11-12 boys) and Brian Neff (13-14 boys). Other individuals who placed were: Chandra Matthew (8 and under girls) — first in the 50-meter backstroke (56.0); second in the 50-meter freestyle (48.56) and third in the 50-meter breastroke (29.67). Danielle Laub (9-10 girls) — first in the 25-meter breastroke (20.79); 50-meter breastroke (48.21); second in the 50-meter butterfly (45.54); second in the 25-meter backstroke (20.66) and third in the 50-meter backstroke (43.43). Stacy Neterer (9-10 girls) — first in both the 25-meter breastroke (20.79) and the 50-meter breastroke (48.21). Brandee Carlson (11-12 girls) — third in the 100-meter butterfly (1:43.72) and Erin Mills (11-12 girls) — fourth in the 100-meter backstroke (1:45.63). Danielle Iwankowitsch (15 and over girls) — second in the 100-meter backstroke (1:22.29) and third in the 50-meter butterfly (39.64). Placing for the boys were: Aaron Kryder (8 and under), who took first in freestyle, breastroke, backstroke and butterfly events. Eric Swartzendruber (9-10 boys) — second in the 25 neter breastroke (23.74); second m the 25-meter backstroke (20.56) and third in the 50-meter backstroke (48.50). Scott Metcalf (9-10 boys) — third in the 25-meter butterfly (20.23). Andy Kryder (11-12 boys), who took first in four events (100-meter freestyle, 50-meter breastroke, 100-meter individual medley and 50-meter backstroke). Eric Schaekel (11-12 boys) — third in the 100-meter freestyle (1:19.07) and backstroke (1:36.6) Ronnie Church (11-12 boys) got sixth in the 100-meter backstroke. Others placing were Thaddeus Dußois (13-14 boys) — third in the 100-meter freestyle (1:10.83). Scott Berkey (13-14 boys) — third in the 100-meter breastroke (1:28.03) and third in the 50-meter breastroke (40.88). Neff (13-14 boys), who took firsts in the 100-meter freestyle and bteastroke as well as the 50-meter freestyle and breastroke. Eric Hood (15 and over boys) — took second in the 100-meter freestyle, backstroke and butterfly as well as the 50-meter butterfly and individual medley. Vince Koser (15 and over boys) — fourth in both the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter butterfly. Others participating were, Jamie Farber, Amy Rehling. Clarissa Dußois, Sara Kline and Brad Koser. Wawasee also did well in the relays. Laub, Neterer, Dußois and Farber placed third in the 100-meter medley in 1:34.65. Neterer, Dußois, Laub and Rehling swam to second in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:23.87. Both events were in the 9-10 girls bracket. In the 11-12 boys bracket, Church, Koser. Andy Kryder and Schaekel placed second and third in the 200-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle, respectively.

Ladies' Golf

The following are results from the South Shore Ladies Golf League as of Tuesday, July 1.. Lucy Johnson, Donna Bevington and Gloria Stoffel were 18-hole winners. Nine hole winners were Roz Sammet and Jo Welty. The league handicap tournament will begin next Tuesday, July 8.

Weather was ideal for Regatta

The second annual Wawasee EScow Cup Regatta was held last weekend under sunny skies and pleasant breezes. The two-day event produced four individual race winners with positions changing dramatically in a very competitive- contest for top honors. Starting line action was exciting throughout the series as the starts of races two and five resulted in general recalls while the 23-boat field pushed for a perfect beginning. Skipper Paul Levinson was the eventual winner. Mike Rian took second while the team of Dick Tillman and Rick Winter placed third. Tom Ewing of the Indian Lake, Ohio, sailing club placed fourth, and Casey Call grabbed a brilliant victory in the third race on Saturday The event was termed successful with the largest gathering of E-Scows on record for this area. Festivities followed both racing days

Area skiers compete at Mishawaka

Area skiers competed in the Spray Riders Open ski tourney last weekend at Mishawaka. Shane Bucher, of Water Ski, Inc. and a Cindonway Shores resident, dominated the Junior Boys’ Divsion with firsts in slalom, tricks, jump and overall. Brandon E icher, also of Cindonway Shores, placed second in both slalor and tricks. Shawna diller of Dewart Lake placed third in tricks in the Junior GiiiJs’ Division. Jane Tully, from the Camelot Lake Ski Team, too! first in slalom and second in tricks in the Women’s Division. In the Mien’s II Division, Steve Plummer of Water Ski, Inc., claimed tl rd in tricks and first in the jump. Can't win Pity tlx cop.
