Cuties crowned at Webster

Just outside North Webster’s Camelot Hall, a new cutie king and queen were crowned last Wednesday night. The hour-long pageant featured brightly dressed contestants, who came from all over Kosciusko County

Before the pageant the Cutie King and Queen Parade was held. Awards were given to first, second and third place winners in three categories: motor pulled, pulled or riding and walking. Taking top honors in the motor pulled division was BreAnn Koher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Koher of Leesburg. BreAnn was dressed at “Little Miss Mermaid.” Finishing second in that class were Derek Bowser and Jennifer Twait for “The Dixie Boat.” Derek is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Bowser of Syracuse and Jennifer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Twait of Cromwell. Third place went to “Petite Ballerina,” which was depicted by Sara Hoover, Dina Coverstone, Stacy Sparks and Allison Elliot. Sara is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hoover of Syracuse; Dina is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dino Coverstone of Leesburg; and Allison is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Elliot of Syracuse. “Lil’ Florida Gator” won top honors in the pulled category'. The float was ridden by Travis and Tara Rinker of Fort Myers, Fla., and Erin Stanley. “Takin’ Brother Fishin’” won second place and was ridden by Justin Bell. Third place went to Cheryl Grady, who was riding “Little Miss Muffett.” She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Grady of North Webster. Lisa and Lori Wolf won the walking class with their depiction of “Doublemint Gum.” They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Wolf of Warsaw. Second was Tiffany Thomas, who depicted “Christmas in June ” She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thomas of W’arsaw. "Statue of Liberty” was good for third place, which was taken by Lindsay Nagy Parade judges were Mrs. Ken Beer of Milford. Charles Pryor of North Webster ; Dan Vanderpool of Warsaw; Peggy Sellers of Warsaw and Mr and Mrs Scott Charlton of Leesburg. Pageant judges were Kathie Yoder of Syracuse, Sandra Allen of Leesburg and Peg Klopenstein of Leesburg Members of the parade and contest committee were Chairwoman Deb Evans, Sandy Walgamuth, Jeanette Bockman, Lynn Stalter, Mary Stalter, Laurie Davis, Carla Eastlund, Charlie Packer, Ginger Packer, Dixie Pryor, Tamie Willaman, Nancy Patrick and Tracie Charlton.

Daycare to open at Webster

Officials of the North Webster Daycare have announced the opening of the center on July 14. The center is located one block west of the stoplight in the North Webster United Methodist Church. A balanced program of educational and play activities is being planned by the qualified staff of teachers and aids. Nutritious meals and snacks will be offered during the day. The center will be operational from 6 a m to 6 pm. Monday thru Friday. Registrations will be accepted from children from 9 a m. to 12 noon on Thursday, July 3, and Monday, July 7, from 9 a m. to 12 noon and from 5 to 8 p.m. Persons wanting more information should call 834-2111 or 834-2871 between 8 a m. and 5 p.m.

The cutie contest will be preceded by a parade of decorated children's conveyances, masqueraders, and pets through North Webster west from the American Legion Hall to the festival grounds. Paddle boat races to be held July 5

Paddle boat races, sponsored by the Lakeland Youth Center, will be held Saturday, July 5, at 12:30 p.m. at Fish-N-Fun Resort, Lake Wawasee. Races will be held in different age categories: Nine-12, 13-18, 18-40, 41 and up. Ribbons will be awarded and boats are furnished. The Lakeland Youth Center is a member of the United Way Agency
