Goshen advances to Saturday’s semifinals while the Warriors finished their season at 10-20. The winners will face either North Wood or Bethany Christian.

Wawasee started the game with promise as Dave Kistler smacked a two-run homer off Redskin pitcher Kevin Wilfong in the first. But Goshen, Northern

Lakes Conference champions with an overall record of 22-9, rallied with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Warriors tied it at 3-apiece in the second. They added another tally in the fourth, following Goshen’s four-run outburst. Disaster followed in the third as the Redskins chased starter Kevin Parker (4-4) with four runs on three hits. Yet, Parker’s teammates failed to support him as Wawasee committed three errors. The Warriors had four miscues for the game. “We just didn’t play very well defensively,” said Wawasee Coach Scott Siler. “I felt that if we could get three to four runs and then play good defense, we would be fine.” Despite some fielding lapses, the Warriors had their moments. They managed to tally four runs in four innings off Wilfong, Goshen’s ace. They also hit the ball well as a team. “Though we only had five hits, we hit Wilfong very well, I thought,” added Siler. “Then he got better in the later innings and when we got behind, it just made things that much tougher for us to come back.” Parker pitched over two innings and took the loss. Todd Roberts relieved him and finished the game. The host Redskins collected eight hits off Warrior pitching. “We felt Parker’s curve ball would be good today,” said Siler. “And he did pitch well, but he didn’t get that much fielding support.” Catcher Scott Baker did all he could to help out Parker by gunning down two Goshen base runners who tried to steal second. “He’s thrown out 14 runners this year,” said Siler. “He does a real good job back there. ” As for next year, Siler looks forward to having a mature team loaded with seniors. “We’ll have a lot coming back,” he explained. “But we’re losing (Bill) Hutchinson and Kistler. Those are two very good kids and we’ll miss them. We’ll just have to find another third baseman and another shortstop.”
