HOMES TOUR A SUCCESS — All those who participated in the Sunday afternoontour of Milford historic homes agreed it was a real success. In the above photo, are Della Baumgartner in front of a painting in the Baumgartner home on James Street with Marge Groves and Dorothea Keriin and Robert Groves. Other homes visited during the tour were the home of Maxine and Robert Pifer, 202 East Fourth Street; Helene Lenta. 105 East Street; Priscilla Myers. 104 Henry Street; Lois and Richard McMillen. 301 Main Street; Janet and Greg Bowser, 412 West Emetine Street; Dorothy and Bill Burgett. 601 West Emetine Street; and Georgia and Robert Fisher. 610 West Emetine Street. There were a total of 207 tickets sold, for a gross of 11.485.20. The event was a fund-raiser to raise money for sesquicentennial expenses.

Fire department has busy week
Syracuse Fire Department was called to EMS Lane 15 Dewart Lake by Mike Gross Sunday. June 1, at 10:50 a m. when a gas line broke on a LP tank There was no fire. Officials report children were climbing on the tank and broke the gas fine off at the tank. Gross had shut off the gas by the time fireman arrived. Fireman contacted Blue Flame to repair the line before returning to the fire station. Spontaneous combustion resulted in SSOO damage to a barn roof owned by Phyllis Gardner, CR 29 Syracuse. Mrs. Gardner called Syracuse Fire Department at 9:16 a.m. Monday, June 2. According to the fire report firemen found a large pile of trash laying on the east side of the road, apparently dumped by Borden Trash Company when it ignited inside the truck. There was approximately 30 mile per hour winds blowing across the pile of trash which ignited the barn roof. Assistance was called from Turkey Creek Township Station II and Benton Town-ship. Firemen were at the scene until 10:07 a.m. and used 1,000 gallons of water on the fire. After returning to Station 11, firemen there noticed a fire behind a housq, and responded to extinguish the fire. The fire was observed at 11:42 a.m. at the

Rear-end collision at Syracuse
A rear-end collision interrupted an otherwise quiet week for Syracuse Police, Friday, May 30, at 1:20 p.m. Roxanna I. Carr, 30, P. O. Box 673, Syracuse, was waiting for a vehicle in front of her to turn onto a service road from SR 13 when Kevin D. Richards, 25; 2810 Apt. 8, Northgate Boulevard, Fort Wayne, hit her from behind. Richards, who was following too closely, according to police, claimed he couldn’t stop in time to avoid Carr, who was stopped 200 feet south of East Chicago Street. Carr’s 1983 Renault Fuego, and the 1986 Chevrolet Cavalier Richards was driving, suffered up to S2OO in damages. No injuries or arrests were reported in the incident.

The burglary of a mobile home near Waubee Lake is the "Crime of the Week. ” On May 27, a mobile home located near the intersection of CR 1100 N and CR 150E was entered by forcing open the front door. Neighbors reported to the owner they had heard a vehicle pull into the drive and leave the engine running. They then heard glass breaking inside the trailer. Taken in this burglary was a Mossburg pump shotgun, a KMart brand cassette player and recorder, turntable and two speakers about 3 inches tall. Persons with information concerning this burglary are asked to contact Crime Stoppers, tollfree, at 1-800-342-STOP.
