Christian Church organized in 1866

The Milford Christian Church, which is attended by about 225 worshipers each Sunday, was moved to its present site on the corner of Fourth and Henry Streets in Milford in 1869. It had been organized October 5,1866, in the home of Jacob Felkner which is now known as the Lloyd Felkner home. It is located one mile south of Milford on Old SR 15. The congregation included 22 charter members. The church building was extensively remodeled in 1902 and

again in 1948. Then, in order to provide needed additional classrooms, a $90,000 construction project was started in 1963. On the properties of Ada Gunter and David Wuthrich a Christian Activities Center was completed and dedicated in 1972. The 1963 expansion included a baptistry and choir loft and increased the sanctuary size to accommodate 300 worshipers. The church has about 30 students in its Christian School which has been in operation for several years.

A new congregation, the Goshen Christian Church, was formed as an extension of the Milford Christian Church in September of 1979 with Rick Brouillette serving as minister. Several members of the Milford church who reside in Goshen formed the nucleus for this new congregation. The Milford Christian Church is self-governing and is entirely independent of all conferences and headquarters. The official board which acts in the interest of the congregation is made up of elders and deacons. Some slogans which proclaim s>the principles of the Milford Christian Church are: “We speak where the Bible speaks and are silent where it is silent.” “No book but the Bible and no name but the divine name. ” “We are not the only Christians, but Christians only. ” This church has seen many young people go off to Bible College and then into the ministry or Christian service. The present minister is Dale Kuhns, who came to Milford this year to become senior minister when Carl Shearer and his wife, Grace, moved to Joplin, Mo. The associate minister is Fred Walls. Waterball contest A waterball contest will be held June 4, at 6:30 p.m. near Campbell’s IGA. The contest will continue until darkness. According to Natalie Stump, several area fire departments have been invited to participate. As of now, members of the Milford Emergency Medical Service and Milford Fire Department will compete. - Billed as a “just for fun event,’’ there will be no prizes or awards given out.

Old timer band concert scheduled

CHRISTIAN CHURCH TODAY — The beautiful sanctuary of the Milford Christian Church holds about 225 worshipers each Sunday and can accommodate 380. The 1963 remodeling which produced this capacity also included a baptistry and choir loft. The church also built a Christian Activities Center in 1972 and has about 30 students in its Christian School.
