Busy Bees chartered in 1932
The date was*. February 26, 1932, and the location was in the home of Mrs. Guy (Bertha) Pinkerton. The purpose, to start a home economics club know known as the Busy Homemakers. . The first meeting of the club, which took the name of Happy Homemakers until 1933, was organized by Mrs. J. A. Bare, Oswego and Mrs. Perry (May) Hoover, Milford. The charter members included Rertha Pinkerton, president; Belle Hollar, reporter; Doris Haney, secretary; Elsie Wilson, treasurer; Ruth George; Freda Hollar; Leatha Kasper; Daisy Biller; Esther Hollar; Mabie Orn; Maud Hollar; Hazel Haney; Eunice Kinney; Clara Fox; Elvina Davidson; Myrtle Charlton; Magaret Estep; and Ruth Haney. The second meeting of the group was March 18,1932, and the members decided to be on Friday’s at 1:30 p.m. The group now meets the first Wednesday evening of each month in homes of members. County Home Economics Programs. The group was one of 27 clubs in Kosciusko County during 1942. The Busy Homemakers left the county organization in 1970 and have been meeting independently since. Both Velma Pinketon and Louise May have outstanding perfect attendance records and have been honored with attendance pins for their faithfulness. Attendance at club meetings are high and for a number of years the club helped the 4-H Clubs, and are still helping with the Red Cross Blood Bank when it comes to Milford each year. Meetings of the club include health and safety reports, gardening lessons, household hints, recipe exchange, guest speakers and general information which may be helpful to other members. Mrs. Pinkerton, president, stated she never goes to a meeting without learning something new. The rose has been chosen as the club’s flower with the club colors being pink and white. Current officers in addition to Mrs. Pinkerton are: Anna Cripe, vice president; Louise May, secretary; and Irene Charlton, treasurer.
