16 YEARS AGO, MAY 26, 1976 Members of the sixth grade social studies class taught by Dick Roose have bedh taking an opinion poll this week on “TV And You.” They will complete their project this week with the results to be published in the future. When Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Estep visited the southwest this winter, they made the rounds of Las Vegas, the famous gambling capital. Mrs. Estep has revealed to her friends that she played the 10 cent slot machine and in a short while it hit on $833 jackpot. Funny Marshall never told anybody about this. Congressman Floyd Fithian’s schedule shows he will be at the Milford “MAD Day” barbecue between 11:15 and 12:15 next

The United Methodist Women of the Milford Church were privileged to hear the Wawasee “Swing Choir” at their annual mother-daughter spring salad bar on Thursday, May 13. 29 YEARS AGO, MAY 25,1966 Cpl. Willard Free, son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Free of Milford, is at the home of his parents following a nine-month tour of duty with the marines in Viet Nam. Free is a 1962 graduate of Milford high school. He was stationed in Chu Lai before returning to the States on May 20.
Willie stated it is bad to be there and it was kind of “hot” when he left. An impressive initiatory service was conducted at the meeting of the Order of Eastern Star held May 18 in Milford. The worthy matron, Mrs. C.J. Myers, and Paul Kizer, substituting for William Perry, worthy patron who was ill, conducted the service with John Davidsen assuming the station of associate patron for Mr. Kizer. Joseph C. Wick, minister of the First Christian church at Lafayette, will deliver the commencement address at Milford high school on Wednesday evening, June 1, at 8 p.m. Rev. Six accidents keep Syracuse Police busy
Six accidents kept Syracuse Police busy this past week, although no injuries or arrests were reported. Up to $2,500 damage was caused to two vehicles when a driver failed to yield the right-of-way at 7:50 a.m., Tuesday, May 27. Richard K. Barnum, 17, 475 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, was traveling south on SyracuseWebster Road when he attempted to cross East Railroad Street before Kenneth R. Hitchcock, 52, 1004 Diana, Kouts, attempted to make a right turn, colliding with the 1977 Chevrolet Camaro Barnum was driving.

Dr. Parrett will fill a vacancy left by Cleo Estep, who recently moved with Mrs. Estep to Santa Paula, Calif., where they will assist in the management of a hotel. Hitchcock, who was driving a 1981 Freight liner semi-tractor, claimed he didn’t see Barnum before he struck him on the passenger side. Traveling at an unsafe speed resulted in a hit-and-run collision 8:45 p.m., Monday, May 26, with the culprit fleeing after the incident. An unknown driver, operating a 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo registered to Frank H. Herring, 430 E. Boston St., Syracuse, caused up to SI,OOO damage to a 1983 Chevrolet Scottsdale. The Herring vehicle was found at the owner’s home later in the evening, after a police investigation, with up to $2,500 in damages. According to witnesses, the Monte Carlo collided with the rearend of the parked Scottsdale, registered to Robert L. Yoder, 300 E. Boston St., Syracuse, after the driver applied brakes to avoid colliding with an automobile that was turning north from a private drive on Boston Street. Speeding automobiles are increasing threats to life and limb. Careless auto drivers should be punished, even if they live in Milford. The Milford Cemetery Association have beautified the cemetery this summer by the planting of 40 evergreen trees in the front part. The work was done by Henry Beer, local landscape architect. The association is planning for other extensive improvement. H.G. Davis has brightened the exterior of his residence with a new dress of paint. Jacob Hartter has accepted employment in South Bend, and drives to and from his work each day. t

Lambright, 36, 61124 CR 13, Goshen, was traveling north on SR 13 when he drove the car into a ditch along the side of the street, 20 feet north of Palm Drive. Driver inattention contributed to a two-car collision at 12:10 p.m., Saturday, May 24 on SR 13. Up to $2,500 damage was caused to a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Samual E, CoQuillard Jr., 24, r 1 box 17f, Milford, was driving when Ron L. Strieby, 37, r 5 box 211, Syracuse, backed into him 100 feet south of Maple Grove Street. CoQuillard was following Strieby south on SR 13 when Strieby stopped and began backing into a parking space, colliding with CoQuillard instead. Up to S2OO damage was suffered by the 1977 Ford Eco Van Strieby was driving.

In a similar incident at 4:49 p.m., Friday, May 23, Raeni L. Rinker, 17, r 4, Syracuse, backed into a parked 1983 Datsun Marina, registered to Steven D. Wiseman, 18096 Vista View Dr., Goshen, when she was attempting to leave the Rinker Built Boat Co., parking lot off Chicago Street. Up tp S2OO damage was caused to the 1982 Volkswagen Karmann Rinker was driving, while the Wiseman vehicle suffered up to $2,500 damage. Malcolm J. Beezley, 21, r 1 box 163, Pierceton, suffered the same fate of the two previous drivers at 4:03 p.m., Friday, May 23, colliding with a 1984 Chevrolet Celebrity, driven by Cynthia J. Thornburg, 35, r 3 box 600, Syracuse, when he attempted to park a 1974 Chevrolet semi-truck. Beezley was backing into a space near the intersection of East Access Road and Chicago Street when he collided with Thornburg, unable to see her advance. Up to SI,OOO damage was caused to the Thornburg vehicle, while Beezley went away with no damages.
