Snap losing streak — Warriors snatch 8- 7 win

Northfield tallied two runs in the first, three in the second and two in the third to build a 7-lad-vantage. The Warriors’ first run came on Yoder’s solo homer in the third. Yoder batted in four runs for the game. Robinson collected three hits and two RBI. In all, Wawasee had nine hits and committed four errors. Northfield got just four hits. With two outs and Wawasee runners at first and third base, the Warriors tried a balk steal as Kistler started for home plate after Hutchinson attempted to steal second base. Hutchinson was caught in a run-down and the game ended. Kent Enyeart (0-2) took the loss on the mound, striking out five batters in a complete game effort. The Wawasee Junior High golf team won its first match of the season by beating Central Noble, 251-320. Joel Reynolds led the way with 44 strokes. David Schmahl and Randy Cesco each shot a 49. Russell Anderson added a 52 and Tony Hostetter completed the nine-hole course in 57 strokes.

Hutchinson pushed the Warriors to a 3-0 lead with a three-run homer in the first inning. Wawasee tacked on two mere in the second to make it 5-1. The Zebras tied it in the third, tallying a pair of runs in the second and third innings and then grabbed a 6-5 edge in the bottom of the sixth. Yoder paced the Warriors with three hits, including a double. Roberts pitched for the win.

Wawasee gir/s run past Plymouth; Up mark to 4-0

Three weeks without competition can hinder the sharpness of any team. The Wawasee girls' track team can make that argument. Since opening the season with an 87-22 romp over Westview, the Lady Warriorshad a home meet cancelled due to rain and a lot of dead space in between. Rather than complain,/ Wawasee is content since it beat Concord and Bremen in a double dual last Thursday, and whipped Plymouth at home Monday night, 63-46. The three wins upped the Lady Warriors’ record to 4-0 going into Wednesday 's home meet against Whitko, which starts at 5 p.m. Against Concord and Bremen, Wawasee collected 60 points. Bremen had 54 and host Concord finished with 26. The Lady Warriors claimed seven firsts, and were led by three double winners: Steph Jamiel in the 100-meter hurdles (.17.4) and the 400-meter dash (l:fß.T>; Jennifer Titus in the 1600-meter run (5:58) and 800-meter run (2:34.5); and Jeanine Gunn, who claimed the high jump (5” 1”) and the long jump 116’3"). Michelle Harter won first in the shot put with a 36-foot, 9-inch toss. Monday, Wawasee claimed six firsts to earn an easy win over Plymouth. Gunn won the long jump with a 16-foot effort; Belinda Whitridge won the 100-meter dash in 13.9; Jamiel won the 400-meter dash in 1:04; Harter won the shot put with a 34-foot, 6-inch toss; Jamiel claimed the high jump with a 5-foot, 3-inch leap; and the 1600-meter relay team of Shelly Landis, Becca Stiver, Jerlyn Sponseller and Jamiel won in 4:38.73. The Maxwelton Golf Club hosted its annual Spring Blowout last Saturday In all, 33 teams competed and enjoyed the perfect weather. The format consisted of four-man teams made up of members and their guests ° with scoring done on two-best balls net. The winning team shot a 26 under par and consisted of Rod Miller and his guests Bob McAndrew, Larry Klotz and Bruce Grimm. The team of Craig Gregory, Tim Wyatt, Tom Wyatt and Brad Wyatt took second place with a 24 under par.

Boys split at Concord; take seventh in Relays

DUNLAP - The Wawasee toys’ track team split a double dual meet at Concord, scoring 52 total points. Concord won the meet with 90.5 points. Rochester, finished 15.5. Wawasee performed well in what is termed as one of the best track meets in the Midwest. Goshen took first in Class B while Roosevelt High from Gary claimed first in the Class A Bracket. The Warriors racked up 46 points overall, taking a host of second places. Such efforts included a 45.9 in the sprint relay (Mangas, D McCulloch, Meek and Boyer). Other seconds were taken by the 800-meter relay team of Bonner, D. McCulloch, Meek and Boyer; the sprint medley relay team of Meek, Mangas, D. McCulloch and Galegor; the 1600-meter relay team of Mangas, Jeremy Corson, Troy Minton and Bonner; and a fourth place was taken by the 32W-meter relay team of Corson, Pnce Pounds, Minton and Jeff Boyer. “We ran pretty well and our times were competitive,” said Minton. “In fact, in all of those events we finished second, we came just a second and a half away from taking first in all of them.
