Com harvesting, handling and drying

, Indiana farmers harvested 90.3 percent of their corn acreage with a corn head on a combine. About 6.1 percent of the 6.15 million acres harvested for grain was harvested with a mechanical picker and 3.0 percent was harvested with a field picker shelter. Handling Farmers marketed 25.9 percent of their corn at harvest time. Corn stored off the farm immediately after harvest was 10.7 percent, while less than one percent (.8) was fed directly from the field. This left 62.6 percent stored on the farm. Drying At harvest time, 6.9 percent of the corn stored on farms was not dried, up from the 6.1 percent of the previous year. Less than one percent (.6) of the corn was dried off the farm and then stored on the farm at

harvest in 1985. Os the corn dried and stored on the farm at harvest time, 27.9 percent was dried by a column-type continuous flow dryer, 24.8 percent by a bin dryer with stirrer. 24.7 percent by a column-type batch dryer, and 13.2 percent by a continuous flow bin dryer and 9.4 percent by a batch-in-bin dryer.

Discovering Jiffy-7 advantages

Each year a host of new gardeners discover the advantages of using Jiffy-7 Plant Starter Pellets. And experienced gardeners keep using them in ever greater quantities. Jiffy-7s look like peat cookies, but once water is added, they expand up to seven times to become self-contained pots These new Jiffy-7s are made from pure Canadian sphagnum peat moss surrounded by a tough, but giving. plastic netting. Two years ago the new Jiffy-7s were introduced when production began in a plant in Shippegan, New Brunswick (a Canadian fishing community). couple of weeks. Jiffy-7s produce quality plants with balanced root and top growth. Best of all, there’s virtually no transplanting shock because pot and all is planted. It can mean days sooner for vegetable production and flowers bloom faster. Experienced growers enthusiastically recommend Jiffy 7s for seed germination. for rooting cuttings and for air-layering. Jiffy-7s are widely distributed at garden centers, nurseries and mass market outlets — wherever garden supplies are sold. No Radio Chief Justice Warren E.
