Clarence-L. Tinkey Retired Farmer Services were held in King Memorial Home, Mentone, on Friday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. for Clarence L. Tinkey, 78, r 1 Claypool, father of Mrs. Larry (Shirley) Polk, Leesburg, who died Tuesday, March 4, at 2:30 p.m. in Mason Health Care Unit, Warsaw. Tinkey was born in Franklin Township, Kosciusko County, on January 21, 1908. His parents were H.G. and Goldie (Nellans) Tinkey. He married Cleo A. Jones on April 21, 1928. She preceded him in death on May 9, 1969. On February 21, 1970, he married Ethel Howard. She survives. Tinkey was a former 4-H leader at Burket, member of American Guernsey Breeders Association, Mentone Masonic Lodge, No. 1946, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Norman and Merl Tinkey, both of Akron; two daughters, one additional daughter, Mrs. Garwin (Peggy) Eaton, Burket; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Don (Wilma) Smith, Sparta, N.J., and Mrs. Russell (Bonita) Hardesty, Columbus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. One son and one sister preceded him in death. ’ Rev. Don Poyser, pastor of Burket United Methodist Church which he attended, conducted the service. Burial was in Mentone Cemetery. A Masonic service was held on , Thursday evening in King Memorial Home, Mentone. William L. Rose Lifetime County Resident William L. Rose, 33, 309 West Prairie St., Leesburg, died Wednesday, March 5, following a car-semi-truck crash at 5:26 a.m. in Warsaw in which his car caught on fire and he was trapped inside. A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, Rose was born on April 15, 1952, in Warsaw, the son of Howard and Velma (Frazier) Rose. On April 12, 1980, he married Kathy Howard. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, April, at home, and Melanie, Virginia; his parents; three brothers, Adrian and Joe David Rose, both of Winona Lake, and Tom Rose, Martin, Ky.; one sister, Debbie Frazier, Salyersville, Ky.; and his grandmother, Mary Frazier, Prestonburg, Ky. She was born on September 6, 1900, in Whitley County, the - daughter of John and Amanda Mirilla (Kaufman) Kourt. She had spent most of her life in At- » wood. * Surviving are one brother, Charles Kourt, Columbia City; one additional nephew, Rex Irwin, Warsaw; and two nieces, Mrs. Dave (Marcella) Mills, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. James (Rosalie) Hurd, Columbia City. She was preceded‘in death by three sisters. Funeral services wwere held Saturday, March 8, at 9 a.m. in Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Father Martin Horvath officiating. Burial followed in Stony Point Cemetery. James J. Stump Senior At West NoWo High School Services for James J. Stump, 17, r 1 Cromwell, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Ligonier United Methodist Church. He was a passenger in an auto that collided with a semitractor trailer and was pronounced dead at the scene. A lifetime area resident, Stump was born on March 25, 1968, in Kendallville, the son of Robert arid Nancy (Coyle) Stump. He was a senior at West Noble High School, lettering in football and was a member of the West Noble FFA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Campus Life, Sparta Township 4-H Club, and parttime employee of Maple Leaf Farms, Cromwell. . Surviving are his parents; one brother, David, at home; one sister, Robin, also at home; a footer sister, Dawn Schueller, Syracuse; grandparents, Clarence and Lena Stump and Raymond and Patricia Coyle, all of Ligonier, and a great-

Foster, 79, r 1 Leesburg, died Friday, March 7, at 9:30 a.m. at her home of an apparent heart attack. She was born on August 4,1906, in Marion, the daughter of E. L. and Varina (Keever) Gossom. On May 13, 1949, she married Bryce H. Foster. He preceded her in death in 1979. Mrs. Foster was a resident for many years of the Barbee area, moving from Marion. She was a member of the North Webster Christian Church. Surviving is a half brother, W. W. Paton, Lamoure, N.D. Services were held yesterday (Tuesday) at 1 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, SR 13S, Syracuse, with Rev. Alva D. Buhler officiating. Burial followed in North Webster Cemetery.
Anna R. Batesla Milford Resident Services were held at 9 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, for Anna R. Batesla, 77, Leisure Living Apartments, Milford. She died at 8:55 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Mason Health Care Center, Warsaw. The daughter of Carmen and Jennie (Williams) Rago, she was born in Chicago on June 18,1908. In 1939, she married Arthur Batesla. He preceded her in death in 1982. Mrs. Batesla moved to Kosciusko County 14 years ago from Chicago. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Surviving are one son, Edward, Syracuse; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Edward (Lois) Baillia, Elgin, 111., Mrs. Lyle (Helen) Apker, Kenosha, Wis., and Jean Wilson, Newton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren; and three sisters, Ellen Adams of North Carolina, Mary Predan of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. B. Rossi, of Alsip, 111. Father Richard Stieglitz performed the service. Burial was in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Worth, 111. Mary F. Davis Housewife Mary Frances Davis, 82, r 1 box 19, North Webster (Epworth Forest), died in Goshen Hospital at 2 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, from complications following an extended illness. Born on March 1,1904, in Middletown, she was the daughter of Elmer and Alnora (Reichart) Showalter. On August 2, 1932, in New York, she married George Davis. He survives. Mrs. Davis was a former secretary in an Anderson junior high school. In 1969, she moved from Anderson to the North Webster area. She was a member of North Webster United Methodist Church and Esther Circle of the church. Additional survivors include one daughter, Mrs. John (Ann) Cutshaw, Cambridge City; one son, Thomas, Farmington, Mich.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. Services were held Monday, March 10, -at Harris Funeral Home, SR 13S, Syracuse, with Rev. O. Rex Lindemood and Rev. Edward McClarnon, officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Anderson. Lorraine Vanette Senior Citizen Lorraine Vanette, 81, r 2 Syracuse, died Friday, March 7, at 12:30 p.m. in Kosciusko County Hospital. She was born on August 6,1904, in Bremen, the daughter of John and Pheobe (Crothers) Lyons. In May 1945, she married Lotta Vanette who preceded her in death in 1978. For many years, Mrs. Vanette was secretary for the Children’s Home at Mishawaka. She had resided in the SyracuseCromwell area since 1942. She was a member of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel. Surviving are a sister, Mary Reed, Valley Station, Ky.; and two nephews, Robert L. Weaver, Niles, Mich., and Dick E. Reed, Valley Station, Ky. She was ’ preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Services were held at Harris Funeral Home, SR 13S, Syracuse, on Monday, March 10, at 11 a.m. Rev. Ruth Ann Roig School Toucher Ruth Ann Roig, 49, box 1575, Aibonito, Puerto Rico, sister of Donald Swihart, Syracuse, died > Friday, March 7, in the Medical > Center, Rio Piedras, Puerto Rica. She had been ill eight months with cancer. Mrs. Roig was .bom on July 6, 1936. She was a school teacher and resided in Puerto Rico for the past five and a half years. In August 1966, she married Clotidle Roig. He survives. Additional survivors include - her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Swihart, Bristol, and Avon Park, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Antonia (Alice) Alvarez, i Aibonito, and Mrs. Paul (Lois) ChalfanL Lubbock, Texas; two i additionatbfothers, Ray Swihart, Goshen, and her twin, Roy Swihart, Greencastle; three stepchildren, Maria Miller, LaGrange, and Tony and Terry Roig, both of Goshen; and three stepgrandchildren. Howenstine Retired Dona Employee Jay H. Howenstine, 59, North Webster, died Monday, March 10, at 6:50 a.m. in the emergency room of Kosciusko Community Hospital from an apparent heart attack. He was born on December 26, 1926, in Fort Wayne, to Ansel Eugene and Burneida (Dunfee) Howenstine. On September 5, 1948, he married the former Myrtle Alice Oxley. She survives. As a young child, Howenstine moved from Allen County to Jefferson Township in Noble County and graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1944. After serving in World War 11, he lived in Whitley and Huntington Counties moving to Tippecanoe Lake in 1974. Howenstine moved to his home in North Webster in 1976. In 1969, he retired after 22 years with Dana Corporation.

Syracuse EMS Greg Flynn, 23, North Webster, was brought to the Syracuse Fire Station at 1:47 a.m. Saturday, March 8, after being involved in a fight. The Syracuse Emergency CPR class at Goshen Goshen General Hospital is offering a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class on Saturday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the hospital’s Education Department. CPR is an emergency measure which almost everyone can learn in a shcfrt time and may keep the heart attack patient alive until more advanced life support is available. Anyone interested in CPR can enroll by calling the education department at Goshen General Hospital at 533-2131, ext. 1104, Pre-registration is necessary as class size is limited. There is a class fee which includes book and materials. Legion Auxiliary to hold Legion Birthday Party President Treva Borkholder opened the March meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary of Milford in proper form with nine officers and 11 members answering roll call. Secretary Helen Leemon read the minutes of the last meeting and read the communications from members concerning the Bakeless Bake Sale. Treasurer Bea Ruch gave the monthly report and reported that one-half of the budget for the year has been received so far, but the cooperation of all members to finish out the year is still needed. Donna Fisher, chairman for Lafayette Home Soldiers and Sailors Retirement/Hospital Facility, reported she has sent socks and bath towels to the people the auxiliary takes care of. She also sent cards at all holidays. Treva Borkholder announced that the Legion Birthday Party will be held at the hall on Friday, March 14, with meat and coffee furnished. It will be a pot-luck dinner and all veterans and auxiliary members with wives and husbands are invited to attend. The meal will begin at 6:30 p. m. The auxiliary will work on the yearly reports at the April meeting. Carol Conrad, foreign relations chairman, will give a report on Australia at the April meeting. Social committee for April will be Treva Borkholder and Rita Vanlaningham. Refreshments were served by Helen Rassi and Mary Ann Dowty. The door prize was won by Treva Borkholder. Dr. Alden J. Rorick I IWIIHOU mOCHvIHV 111 wvlHwvll Dr. Alden Jasper Rarick, 79, #6 Carriage Lane, Danville, m., died Sunday, March 9, at 10:15 a.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Danville, where he had been a patient for two days. He was born in Turkey Creek Township on February 19,1907, to John Ezra and Ida E. (Longfellow) Rarrick. He married Vivian Short on April 15, 1932, in Shelbyville. She survives. Dr. Rarick attended grade school in Turkey Creek Township and graduated from Cromwell High School. He studied premedicine at Butler University and graduated from the Indiana University Medical School. Dr. Rarick served his internship at Akron City Hospital, Akron, Ohio, and practiced medicine at Cromwell. On December 5, 1940, he joined the military service and was discharged in February 1946 as a major. During his military service, he served in United States and European hospitals on X-ray assignments for the Army and received additional training in X-
Medical Service crew transported him to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment of a two-inch laceration to the left temple and contusions to both sides of his head. The EMS was called to the home of Tom Tuttle, r 4 box 219 Syracuse, when Tuttle, 20, was injured in a snowmobile accident. The EMS was called at 3:08 a.m. Saturday. Tuttle’s father requested he be checked and was advised to keep a close check on him after the patient did not want to be transported. Ethel Hostetter, 71, r 2 box 581 Syracuse, was transported to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, after the EMS was called at 11:59 a.m. Saturday. Milford EMS The Milford Emergency Medical Service transported a 17-year-old male at 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, from the Mt. Wawasee Ski Area to Kosciusko Community Hospital. The patient complained of his neck hurting and was disoriented. ray from the Veteran’s Hospital and Vanderbuilt University. He was a radiologist and practiced medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for 22 years, retiring in 1974. He was former president of Vermilion County Medical Society; past president of Vermilion County Tuberculosis Association; a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Danville; a charter member of Piankeshaw Chapter of SAR; past master of the Masonic Lodge, Cromwell; and a 50 year Mason. He also published two books on the geneology research on his family. Additional survivors include one daughter, Mrs. John (Brenda) Crim, Waukegan, Ill.; two brothers, Robert Rarick, Syracuse, and Otis Rarick, LaPorte; and three grandchildren. One daughter, Phyllis, preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. this morning (Wednesday), in the Pape Memorial Home and Gardens, Danville. Rev. C. B. Motsett officiated. Graveside services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in the Sparta Christian Church Cemetery, Kimmell. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
On Wednesday, March 5, Kosciusko Community Hospital called the EMS to transport a 17-year-old male patient to Parkview Hospital in Fort" Wayne. The EMS transported a 91-year-old male at 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, from Kosciusko Community Hospital to Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw. At 9:39 a.m., Thursday, March 6, the EMS was called to transport a 20-year-old male patient from Maple Leaf Farms to Goshen Hospital. The patient, who had been in a car accident the previous day, complained of numbness in both hands and had passed out. A 65-year-old female patient was complaining of high sugar and had been unable to eat.
