16 YEARS AGO. MARCH 16, 1976 Members of the Milford town board beard requests from firemen during their monthly meeting Monday in the town hall. The firemen — chief Bill Leemon, Harold Kaiser and Max Duncan — stated they could purchase an equipment van for $8,700 if they acted quickly. They proposed a tree-way plan with the town and township purchasing the van and the fire department furnishing an additional $4,000 to equip it to suit the departments needs. Keith and Dave Stichter, of Milford and Carl Leinbach, Goshen, left Saturday for Palm Springs, California. They will spend five days there and tour the southwest the rmnainAw of their two week stay.

Co-sponsors of the competition were lUSB’s division of music and the South BendMichiana Association of Piano Teachers. Beer, a senior at Wawasee High School and a student of Douglas Bomberger of Goshen, was awarded a cash prize of $166 for his performance in division IV for students in grades 16-12. He also was presented with an IU junior artists certificate.

MARCH 12, 1936 The robin red breast, sure harbinger of spring has made his appearance in Afilford, a number of citizens having seen these welcome arrivals. Dr. and Mrs. W F. Price will operate their filling station in south Milford, this season. Lon Lutes has had charge of the station for some time. The Morgan Packing Co. wishes to increase their Carrot, Rutabaga and Potato acreage 50 to 75 per cent in this vicinity. Interested growers should see Guy Lambert, Milford, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wiggins. Saturday moved their household good from the Klopenstine property into the brick residence just south of the Milford Lbr. 6 Coal Co. Mr. and Mrs. Lon Lutes will occupy the Klopenstine home in the near future. Maple trees in this vicinity are being tapped as the thawing weather has started the sap flowing freely and it is predicted the Maple Syrup will be of exceptional quality this season.

the 4-H/FFA Crops, Forestry and Entomology Judging Contests on Wednesday, March W. The contest will begin at 4 |xm.. in the Justice Building meeting room in Warsaw. Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m.» and there will be a registration fee for all participants. The crops contest will include competition in three areas: identification, grain grading and an objective quiz. The entomology contest will include insect identification and an objective quiz covering the economic importance, biology, life habits and control of insects. The forestry contest includes identification of species and an objective quiz. Individuals or teams may judge in the contest. A crops judging team is made up of three or four members with the highest three scores making up the team score. Teams in forestry and entomology consist of two or three members with the top two scores making up the team score. Winners at the county contest will advance to the area contest on April 24, in Goshen.
