Win-Some Women to hold spring retreats April 16-20
The Win-Some Women Spring Retreat will feature Doris Van Stone, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Carol Kent, Port Huron, Mich.; and Beatrice Bush Bixler, Waverly, N.Y. The semi-annual retreat will be held in Winona Lake, midweek April 16-18, and weekend April 18-20. “Celebrate” is the theme of this retreat. Each session will emphasize an area with its possibilities for celebration, for example, life, death, adversity and opportunity. Doris Van Stone, known as “Dorie” from her book “Dorie, The Girl That Nobody Loved,” is a former missionary to New Guinea. Recently widowed, Van Stone is now involved in Precept Ministries in Tennessee. She is new to Win-Some Women retreats. Carol Kent is a young businessman’s wife who has been a speaker all over the continent. She is a mother and founder of “Speak Up With Confidence” seminars. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including listing in “Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges” and “Outstanding Young Women in America.” She has been with Win-Some Women as workshop leader on several occasions and as a speaker once before. UMW executive committee discusses dates, projects The Calvary United Methodist Women’s Executive Committee meeting was conducted on February 25 with seven members present. The meeting was opened by Mrs. R. C. Tytler with an Easter meditation and prayer. The reports from the secretary and treasurer were read and several “Thank You’s” received were reported. A short business meeting was conducted by the president in which projects and upcoming dates were noted. These items include Lenten meetings, World Day of Prayer and Day Apart. The meeting was closed by members repeating the Mizpah Benediction.

Beatrice Bush Bixler, also known as “Bea,” has composed over 300 sacred songs, including “Life is a Symphony” and “I Am Not Worthy.” She is the widow of Rev. Clair Bixler, the mother of four, and a grandmother. She has been involved in music as pianist, choir director, vocalist and song leader since early childhood. She was also a member of the original Win-Some Women staff. Two circles meet at Calvary
The two circles of Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse, recently conducted their monthly meetings. The following is a report from each circle. Ruth Circle Ruth Circle met February 18 in the church parlor with Mrs. Loren Longenbaugh, circle leader, opening the meeting. Mrs. Ron Pollock presented the lesson on “How to Be Perfect In Three Days.” She closed the lesson wjth a scripture reading from Psalms 4. Reports from the secretary and treasurer were read. During the business meeting, conducted by Mrs. Longenbaugh, the Lenten services, bulletin board, congregational dinner, project 52, children’s choir robes and new circles were discussed. The meeting was closed by repeating the Mizpah Benediction. The next meeting will be March 18. Martha Circle The Martha Circle met at 9 a.m. in the church February 26. Hostesses for the breakfast meeting was Mrs. Charles Disher and Mrs. Robert Laughlin. Present were 10 members and one guest and the tables were decorated in a belated Valentine theme. The Doxology was sung by members. Mrs. Laughlin presented the lesson on “What Can I Do, I Am Only One Person.” about Dr. J. Harry Haines’ experience as retired head of the United Methodist Relief Committee, which he served for 17 years. Dr. Haines was also a missionary to

The circle meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer. Church supper on Saturday St. Martin de Porres Church has a fun time corned beef and cabbage supper and sing-along scheduled for next Saturday, March 15. The fun will begin at 6: 30 p.m. in the church basement. St. Martin de Porres is located south of Syracuse on SR 13, north of South Shore Golf Course. Children six years of age and under have free admission. Junior high class holds skating party Last Sunday afternoon, the junior high Sunday school class of the Christian Church of Milford went to Eastland Skate Center in Warsaw after having made a very important visit to McDonald’sto fuel up stomachs. . The participants skated from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and then returned to Milford to enjoy the video, “North Avenue Irregulars.” They then attended evening services at church. It was a busy day, but very enjoyable.

He is currently a student at Fort Wayne Bible College and expects to graduate in December. In January, 1987, the pastor will attend the School of Christian Ministries in Huntington. Wheeler and his wife, Linda, have three children: Michelle, 11; Jennifer, 7; and Timothy, 5. Missionary conference
“Our Field Is the World” is the theme of the fourteenth animal missionary conference at the Living Gospel Church of Nappanee. Services will be held nightly from March 21-23 at 7:30 p.m. Harry Lee will be the main speaker. He is a mission representative-at-large for OMS International. Born and raised in China, Lee became a Christian through the ministry of OMS. After World War 11, he worked for 10 years as an accountant in a company which was eventually taken over by the communist government. In 1967 he resigned his position to enter full-time Christian service. For 10 years he was denied a visa to go to Hong Kong to attend seminary. Later, he was held in prison for seven years and then was forced to work on a prison farm for four more years. In 1981 he was finally granted a student visa to attend Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, Oreg., from which he graduated with a Master of Divinity degree. Lee has been Sven political asylum by the nted States government as it is inadvisable for him to return to China. He now seeks to lead Holy Week services planned Ministers from several North Webster churches met recently with Rev. The community Palm Sunday service will be at the Church of ’ God in North Webster on March 1 23. The service, with Rev. Steve ! Foutz, pastor of the Church of God, in charge will begin at 7 1 p.m. The Church of God choir will f present “Living Witness” by ’ Cook and Bledsoe. The community Good Friday service will be from noon to 1 p.m. on March 28 at the Church of the Brethren. Dean McFadden, pastor of Bible Christian Church, will be in charge of the service at which a guest speaker will give the sermon. Rev. Cluster Group meetings
Elkhart District United Methodist Women will be attending Cluster Group meetings through the Elkhart District on March 11, 13, 17, 18, and 20 for fellowship and discussion. Meetings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. The theme is “Preparing to Journey.” The purpose of the meetings is to develop that supportive community in Jesus Christ by getting to know each other and by sharing ideas, including failures and successes. There will be worship, skits, singing and refreshments. The local Elkhart District units have been divided into groups and the following will be the locations for the meetings:

Due to the piece’s intensity the audience feels drawn into the drama and is given a much more vivid picture of the pain and significance of the crucifixion of Christ.
