to have a night like this.” The coach was also pleased with the balance his offense was able to achieve in support of another outstanding effort by Mangas. “Look at this,” said Wysong, pointing to Mangas’ statistics in the score book. “I’ve never had a junior score as many points as he has.” After Bremen (9-lp took a 16-12 lead in the first quarter, the Warriors started to take control. Then, a jumper by Mangas at the 3:36 mark of the second stanza put Wawasee ahead, 25-23. The Lions never recovered as the Warriors continued with crisp offensive execution, getting the best possible shots. Wawasee increased its lead to 33-27 by halftime. “They have a pretty good team,” Wysong said of Bremen. “We just did a lot of good things tonight. All 10 of our players contributed and I felt that our concentration was the key. We’ve been concentrating real well in our practices lately, and that’s important.” The Warriors kept pouring it on in the second half as Hutchinson swished a pair of 10-footers, giving his team a 37-27 edge. the Lions with 20 and 18 points, kept Bremen close. Jones scored five straight points halfway through the third quarter, narrowing the margin to 45-40. Up 50-44 going into the final eight minutes, the Warriors went inside to Steffen, who came through with nine points in the period. It was the sophomore’s finest offensive outing at center to date, and it came at an ideal time since Wawasee built a 59-49 lead. “Our inside game was tough tonight,” said Wysong, knowing his front line produced 37 points. “Steffen came through for us.” Bremen cut the lead to six when Pittman canned a pair of 20-footers, but the Warriors responded with five straight tallies — three coming from Kistler, to post their widest margin, 68-57. After that, both teams ended the contest by trading baskets. The Lions hit 27 of 60 shots for 45 percent and enjoyed a 29-20 advantage in rebounds. Jones and Mark Grove each had six boards to lead Bremen. Kistler and Evans each grabbed five rebounds for the Warriors. Kistler also dished out a team-high seven assists. The victory gave Wawasee an
overall record of 8-12 going into sectional play against Triton this Friday, which starts at 6:30 p.m. It also gave the Warriors a respectable 3-4 mark in Northern Lakes Conference action. JV’s Finish With Win The Junior Varsity Warriors ended their season on a positive note, beating Bremen by a 37-26 count. Mike Eastman led Wawasee with 11 points.
