Boilermakers will face lllini Thursday
The Purdue men’s basketball team will encounter one last crucial test at home when the Illinois Fighting lllini come to West Lafayette for a Thursday night game at Mackey Arena. The Boilermakers (21-7) are coming off a tremendous 85-68 win over arch-rival Indiana last Sunday and they hope to do the same to a strong Illinois team which sports an 18-8 record coming into the game. “We’re still hanging in there and that’s one of our goals,” said Purdue Coach Gene Keady. “Illinois is a veteran team which shoots the ball extremely well and plays excellent defense. We will need another great performance to beat them. ” The Fighting lllini won the first game between the two teams this year, 80-68. But that was in Champaign-Urbana. It will be a much tougher task for Illinois to repeat at Mackey Arena. The Boilermakers are presently a half game behind Indiana and Michigan in the Big Ten Conference race for first place. They have a league record of 10-5. Michigan and Indiana have 10-4 conference records.
