TO WED IN AUGUST — The engagement and approaching marriage of Lisa Ann Haney and Gene Otway Farrar is announced by the couple’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. William (Linda) Haney, r 3 box 471, Syracuse, and Mr. and Mrs. Otway (Ella Mae) Farrar, Galveston, Texas. The future bride is a 1974 graduate of Wawasee High School and a 1985 graduate of Fashion and Art Institute of Dallas. She is employed at The Banker’s Note in Irving, Texas. The bridegroom-to-be, who resides at 3509 W. Northgate No. 504, Irving, Texas, is a graduate of Ball High University of Houston and is employed at Montgomery Wards in Dallas, Texas. An August 23 wedding will be held in the Methodist Church in North Webster.

Meals for Older ’ Americans

Meals for Older Americans are served each day at the following locations: The Scout Cabin, Syracuse; the Pierceton Community Building; Mentone Community Room in the fire station; the Retired Tigers Center, 320 W. Main. Warsaw; and Packerton Community Building. Meals for Older Americans is for persons 60 years or older and is a chance to meet new friends and enjoy hot, nutritional meals. The sites are opened several hours each day including noon for programs. Meals for Older Americans is not associated with welfare but is for the promotion for better health for the older population. Donations are accepted for the meals. The site directors request all persons planning on attending the meals to make reservations by 1 pm the day prior to attending. Phone 457-2631 for Syracuse transportation and reservations. TO CELEBRATE 63RD ANNIVERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. Cephas Yoder. Lakeland Loving Care Center, Milford, will be quietly celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary on March 3. Cephas Yoder and the former Bernice Weldy were married on March 3, 1923, by the bride’s uncle. Rev. Silas Weldy. They were engaged in farming in the Milford and Nappanee areas. The couple is the parents of three children. Jay E., New Paris; Helen Gochnauer, Tampa. Fla.; and Allen, Winston-Salem, N.C. They also have 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to share this celebration by sending a greeting to them.

Legion Auxiliary choose staters

The Herbert Kuhn Unit 253 Auxiliary of the North Webster American Legion held its meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 8. President Betty Busch opened the meeting by announcing that the unit has surpassed its quota of paid members by two. The unit has 19 new members and one junior member. Kay Lowe and Jill Beezley are working on making up a new constitution and by-law book. Bylaws were discussed. The first vice president will be the membership chairman and the second vice president will be the rehabilitation and veteran’s chairman. Thank-yous were extended to the unit from Elinore Enyeart for the cards and fruit basket given to her while she was in the hospital. A card was read from

COMPETES FOR MRS. INDIANA TITLE — Diana Walker. 119 W. E. Long Dr., Syracuse, has been selected as an entrant in the 1986 “Mrs. Indiana America” Pageant to be presented in the Windsor Ballroom of the Sheraton Meridian, Indianapolis, on March 8 and 9. The state pageant will select Indiana’s representative to the 1986 “Mrs. America Pageant” in Las Vegas, Nev., in April and will be seen from cost to coast on the nationally syndicated television production of the 16th Annual “Mrs. America Pageant.” Mrs. Walker is married to Stuart Walker. They have three children, Kevin, 22; Bethanie, 21; and Mark, 26. Mrs. Walker is a graduate of Toledo Academy. Indiana University Real Estate, Elkhart Speakers School and Model I Agency and is now coowner of T-Shirts Unlimited, Syracuse. Some of Mrs. Walker’s activities include St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church Choir, Syracuse Park Board, and Psi lota Xi Philanthropic Sorority. Her interests include teaching dance aerobics and playing bridge.

the Jack Angel family. It was stated that Glenrose Ankrom was ill and to send cards to Gold Star mother Marion Lyon who has beenailing. Dick Long sent thank-you cards for contributions to the community fund and from Pete Good family for contributions to the cancer society. Bellie Schuman, Julie Rogers, and Robyn Jones were appointed to nominating committee. Fund raisers were discussed for the Mermaid Festival week and for the Legion Picnic Day. Betty Busch, Kay Lowe, Sue Heath are on the committee. The Legion birthday party will be held on Saturday, March 22. Girls’ Staters were voted on. Chosen was Lisa Noble, a junior at Wawasee High School. The alternate will be Angie Barton, also at junior at Wawasee High School. The Girls’ State will be held on June 15-22 at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. The meeting was closed with a prayer by Ann Gant in lieu of Chaplain Jill Beezley.

Boosters plan chili supper

The executive board of the Milford Baseball/Softball Booster Club recently met to plan for the annual chili supper. This event is the primary moneymaking source for the extensive summer program each year. March 22 is the date for the supper, which is held in conjunction with the PTO Art Festival and Used Book Sale. It was also noted at the meeting that the sign-up for the coming baseball and softball season will be Thursday, March 13, from 6-8 p.m. and Friday, March 14 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the school. There will also be sign-up opportunities at the chili supper. The program is open to any boy or girl currently in kindergarten thru eighth grade. The executive board this year includes Dr. Kenneth and Lynne Beer, president; Bob and Louise Strieby, vice president; Dennis and Barbara Wuthrich, secretary-treasurer. Everyone is invited to attend the chili supper and support the summer program for the community’s youth. Lions celebrate 40th anniversary The Millersburg Lions Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a dinner meeting on Sunday, March 9, at Fairfield High School. Dinner will be served at 1 p.m. Millersburg Lions Keith Keim and Dee Stoner are among the charter members. Former Lions and friends are invited to attend the dinner. The guest speaker will be Past International Director William Schooler, an Indiana Lion running for Third Vice President of Lions International. For reservations call S.
