Heckaman Marine features a top line of performance boats

If performance boats are your thing, Heckaman Marine may be the answer to finding the best for your pleasure. Heckaman Marine features a top line of Thunderbird performance boats (by Formula). Other products include Nissan outboard motors, Blue Fin boats and Kawasaki jetskis. But the specialty is performance boats. Co-owner Kim Heckaman makes sure of that. “Right now, we have about a half million dollars worth in inventory,” he said. “Most of that consists of the Formulas we carry. These boats range from 20 to 35 feet in size and we have about 14 boats in stock overall.” A full service marine, Heckaman has one certified mechanic. Heckaman also accepts trade-ins and sells numerous used boats. As

Melody Center, United Satellite the satellite television specialists

Melody Center and United Satellite at 300 S. Huntington in Syracuse is the place to go it you have any questions about “satellite television.” Dan Van Lue, owner of the store, sells satellite systems and is knowledgeable on everything related to that field including installations, programming, and the “scrambler issue.” Van Lue says, “Even though many people have questions about the ‘scrambler,’ we are, trying to look at the positive side of what it can offer.” He plans to have a future promotion and offer the scrambler as a bonus with the purchase of a satellite system and also some free programming. As of January 15, HBO and Cinemax are scrambled and you would need a de-coder even with the satellite in order to view the signal. On the “positive side,” there are 114 channels available via satellite television, only two are scrambled which means satellite still offers 112 channels, plus 21 new channels coming are future possibilities and the trend is toward advertising supported services. United Satellite is a two-store operation; the other in Churubusco is independently operated by Bob Bell under the same name. Originally, Melody Center started out as a Radio Shack franchise from 1977 until 1983. “Basically in 1983, we went into the electronic service business. The satellite business started in the summer of 1984. Now we are actually two services, electronic and satellite. The electronic part of the business

for sales, Kim says this is the best time of year for his business. Kim and his brother, Larry, first opened their doors three years ago in Nappanee. They moved their location to Syracuse last May and have sold about 35 boats since. “It’s an enjoyable business,” said Kim “Os course, it helps being new in the area. But we like this location and we plan to keep it. But we would like to get on the water some time in the future.” Presently, Heckaman Marine is located on SR 13, just south of uptown Syracuse. As for business, the Formula power boats are the main money-maker for Heckaman Marine. In addition, Kim said that 98 percent of the .boats purchased from the marine have been sold with Eagle traitors — another official product bf his business.

is both wholesale and retail locally and to surrounding counties thru a dealer network. Melody Center is the electronic part of the business while United Satellite is the name of the satellite business. “We cover an area as wide as Fort Wayne to Elkhart and every county in between. Our expertise is our service and we have licensed technicians for service which is rare in the satellite business,” Van Lue related. “One of the advantages of purchasing a satellite is that you own the equipment and have your own mini-cable system. With scrambling there still are some future possibilities — one example would be Pay Per View. These would be current released movies that you cannot get on HBO and Cinemax.” According to Van Lue, “You would phone a toll free 800 number and tell them what movie you want to watch at whatever time. It would be available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, during that one week. This is something that Satellite can offer as a plus because of the scrambling. “Cost would actually be minimal because the entire family, or a group of friends, could watch the movie for one price. ” Melody Center and United Satellite is the largest Uniden Satellite dealer in northeast Indiana and Van Lue gives the reasons as, “By keeping up with current changes in the market place and by taking positive attitudes about the scrambling issue and by offering the area’s most competitive prices.
