Jones Food Center is
open seven days a week
Even though Jones Food Center is located in the small town of Leesburg — it operates in big ways to serve the community. It is open seven days a week, daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and until 8 p.m. on Fridays. Sunday hours are from 8 a m until 12 noon. Harold Jones, owner of the grocery, has been in the same location for 16 years, but has had experience in the grocery business for 28 years. It is the ‘only’ grocery in Leesburg. “This year we have completely remodeled the meat department and it is now under a state inspection program by the State Board of Health,’’ Jones said.

“We have really expanded our meat business which almost doubled in volume in We sell a lot of sides and quarters of beet to individuals for family freezers and we do all of our own processing. Terry Thompson is the meat manager and brings with him about 30 years of meat experience,” Jones related. “We buy from Super Food Service of Bellefountaine, Ohio, one of the major food suppliers in the eastern half of the United States. In addition to our retail grocery business, we also supply institutional accounts. We serve the whole county and have

customers throughout the entire area who buy from us. “Also, we guarantee 100 percent everything we sell. We will refund or replace any item that isn’t satisfactory,” Jones added. “My whole life has been centered around the grocery business and as the business here grew, we remodeled several times inside and the outside structure has also been changed and added on to increase the space. We are able to keep our costs down on our food prices because we do have low overhead. “My son, Doug Jones, has just joined the business this year after two years at Manchester College where he studied business administration and computer science. “We have a new computerized scale and [Minter and it is so brand new it is one of the first in the whole state of Indiana. It had to be approved by the State Board of Health. It’s a highly sophisticated piece of equipment that we have never had to deal with before and my son, Doug, will be a great help in assisting us with this. In the future we hope to add a computer system. “We have a total of 10 employees, but our total combined experience in the meat department adds up to over 100 years, Jones related. Besides offering nearly every item you could find in a large super market in a big city, Jones Food Center is also the place to go in Leesburg for your reading material — there's a large rack near the entrance filled with magazines and area newspapers.
The family-operated business is open year-round, offering sales, storage, boat rentals, docking facilities, gasoline and *boating accessories for the lake enthusiasts, plus a complete parts and service department. Trained mechanics assist the Griffiths in the service end of the business. “We service all types of boats, engines and outdrives,” commented Terry. “Our services also include interior and exterior work on fiberglass and re-furbishing wooden boats.” According to Lisa, “Most of the people that are buying from us do so because of our service. The majority of our customers are return clientele because of our past service to them after the sale. We have had a steady growth pattern at the marina for two main
