NEW TOWN HALL IN USE — The new Syracuse town hall on South Huntington Street marks a big step in the continuing progress of Syracuse. The building provides the public a convenient one stop location since, in addition to the police department and town
Syracuse doesn't hibernate when summer visitors leave
Syracuse is a unique town in a prime location of northern Indiana. In addition to the summer vacation activities associated with its lakes and golf courses, Syracuse has a wide variety of outdoor winter sports available. These include ice skating, ice fishing, sledding, downhill skiing, crosscountry skiing and riding snowmobiles and all terrain vehicles on and around the lakes. The town certainly no longer hibernates during the fall and winter months after the many summer visitors depart about Labor Day. Os course, there are many more people enjoying the beautiful Syracuse and Wawasee Lakes in the summer, but judging from activities of the Syracuse Town Board, Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce and Syracuse-Wawasee Area Development Company, growth activities do not even pause any more. The town managers have worked long and hard to secure government funding for improvements in the municipal sewer system. » At the latest report from Joe Dock, utilities superintendent, Syracuse is currently number 12 in line on Indiana’s- list for funding. This position has improved during 1985
Country Home Floral Shoppe caters to most any occasion
With items ranging from floral arrangements to stuffed animals, Country Home Floral Shoppe, 624 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, is able to cater to most any occasion. Jayne and Rich Timmons, a mother-son team, have a combined 17 years experience in floral arranging, something that has helped them to provide customers with quick friendly service. “If a customer calls in the morning we can usually have their order ready that same day,” Rich Timmons boasted. The younger Timmons is a graduate of the American Floral Arts in Chicago, having also been named one of the top three designers in Indiana in 1985, while Jayne Timmons has studied floral arranging at Indiana University’s South Bend Campus. Both attend wire floral sponsored seminars and classes to refine their skills and keep updated on new styles, colors and home decor. Subscribing to the two top wire services in the nation, FTD and Teleflora, the Shoppe is able to provide its customers with complete

because the town has completed required studies and furnished necessary information to the state. Construction of the industrial park in northwest Syracuse, worked so hard for by the Syracuse-Wawasee Area Development Company, will proceed next spring since the town board agreed to place the off-site street, water and sewage facilities as requested. The new Syracuse Town Hall, which was begun last spring, became occupied in December. It houses, in addition to town offices and meeting rooms, the police department, Turkey Creek Township assessor’s offices, the Turkey Creek Township trustee’s office and offices of the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce. Town approvals were given in December which cleared the way for the construction in Syracuse of a new 66-bed Miller Merry Manor nursing home facility to begin. Completion is expected by July, 1986. The just completed Syracuse-Wawasee Winter Carnival was a good mid-winter function to get participants and residents out and active. Syracuse is truly a “yeararound” fun place to be.
wedding service; hospital arrangements; silk arrangements; helium balloons; house plants and home arrangements; special occasion florals and funeral arrangements. Stuffed animals, ceramic gifts and candy have also become available in the pa%t few years, as the Shoppe has strived to offer more “gift items.” Specials are also a common thing at the Northern Syracuse store, with weekend specials on fresh cut flowers and other items being offered throughout the summer months. With flowers coming from all over the world the customer can also be assured of top quality produce at the Country Home Floral Shoppe. “We get our flowers from such places as Columbia, Holland and South America, while our U.S. flowers all come from California, Colorado and Florida,” Rich Timmons commented. Delivering within a 30-mile radius of Syracuse, the shoppe is often able to get those “hard to find” flowers to the customer in a matter of hours. “We also have a computerized system for our wire orders, allowing us to send out orders quicker while also getting them in sooner,” Timmons added. While the Timmons have no immediate plans for expansion they hope to add a greenhouse for green and blooming plants in the future. Currently open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, the Timmons welcome people to come in “just to browse” or take advantage of their expertise in planning for any occasion.
offices, it also contains township assessor and trustee offices and the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce.
NEW PICNIC SHELTER AT PARK — Although there is now snow on the roof, the new pavilion at Lakeside Park in Syracuse will be available when the earliest hardy picnicers are ready to enjoy the park next spring. The Syracuse park board had good volunteer help available to complete the shelter last summer.
