Leading the way was Steve Rozow, who was a double winner, claiming the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races. Freshman David Keener scored 220 points for onemeter diving honors. “There were a couple bright spots,” said Caldwell. ’’Big we swam bad. We deserved to lose. We didn’t come in here expecting to beat Warsaw, but we thought we would give them a good meet. We thought we were ready to race tonight, but we weren’t up for it,” be added. Wawasee went into the meet

Wawasee suffers tough weekend
By DAVE STRAUB Sports Editor Fatigued from a tough loss at Wfaitko last Friday, Wawasee couldn’t weather an East Noble storm Saturday night. The visiting Knights got hot in the fourth quarter, scoring 28 points to secure a67 53 basketball win over the Warriors. The setback was Wawasee’s sixth in the last seven games, and dropped its overall record to 6-10. That stretch broke open a close game, with the Knights hanging onto a 39-36 lead after three quarters Then East Noble went on a decisive 21-8 scoring tear. John Oven and Jeff Platt combined for 14 points, upping the margin to 60-44. Bret Dove added six more tallies in the final eight minutes, raising his game total to 19 points. Platt led East Noble with 20 while Owen chipped in 14. “Physically, we were drained in the second half,” said Coach John Wysong. “Fatigue will hurt you more on double weekends. After such an intense game with Whitko (a 58-53 defeat), it was hard for us to get another complete effort.” The Warriors played hard, and for three quarters, played well. They managed to keep pace with (he Knights and ended the first half trailing by a 23-22 count. Wawasee appeared to have taken the lead when Dave Kistler canned a layup at the buzzer, but the basket was discounted. The officials ruled that the basket came just after the buzzer sounded. Tim Mangas started the second half with a pair of free throws which put Wawasee ahead, 24-23. Following a 20-foot jumper by Owen, Mangas canned a layup, giving the Warriors their last lead of the game. The Knights countered with six straight and stemmed any momentum Wawasee was looking for. “When we got behind, we had to drive to the hoop late in the game,” said Wysong. “We also had to do die chasing, and that took a lot out of us.” Another advantage East Noble enjoyed was rebounding. The Knights grabbed 30 boards, including 15 on the offensive end. Platt was tops with nine. “They physically boarded us to death,” added Wysong. The defeat also overshadowed another outstanding performance by Mangas. He scored a game-high 25 points. Kistler was next with nine tallies. Yet, the Warriors were plagued with cold shooting, hitting just 41 percent of their tries (19 of 47). The Knights converted 28 of 55 for 54 percent. Tough Loss To Whitko i Mark Sickafoose led a balanced attack with 13 points as Whitko beat Wawasee, 58-53 Friday night Mike Kline followed with 12 tallies. The Warriors held a 38-31 edge after three quarters, but the hosts blitzed them with a 27-point effort in the fourth stanza. “We had a good game,” said Wysong. “It was dose and competitive and we played well.” Mangas and BUI Hutchinson paced Wawasee with 17 points each.
