Families are important to God
By RONALD G. LOONEY, Pastor Syracuse United Pentecostal ‘The Family” Knocked Down But Not Out! An average American family living in an average American day where: 500 million cups of coffee are consumed School kids ride 12,720,000 miles on school busses 10,205 people give blood 10,000 people take their first airplane ride 205 animals are buried in pet cemeteries 9,077 babies are born 4,109 people parachute from planes 679 million phone conversations occur (50 million are long distance) 5,962 couples get married b Each one of us produces nearly six pounds of garbage 5,041 folks reach age 65 63,288 cars crash Motorists pay $4,036,000 in tolls 1.1 million patients are in the hospital 28 mail carriers are bitten by dogs (2,466 children are also bitten by dogs) And that’s just in our busy little part of the world. The family in the past few years has suffered many losses on the battle field of average days. The general forecast for the Christian home has much promise. Our homes are important! When we speak of homes, we are speaking not only about the buildings of brick and mortar, but about the most important atmosphere where family members can form a bond of

power. In this unit, each member gives an<f receives. Automation and the ‘fast lane’ have slowly rotted what used to be quality foundations of strong family related homes. Harmony is a beautiful sound that makes a pleasant atmosphere. Proper harmony occurs when two or more tones are played at the same time and at correct intervals on the musical scale. Each note must make its sound and still maintain its position without crowding the other tones or getting too far away. So it is with the family. We all have our different instruments with each of separate distinction and sound. When played together in unity and purpose, the most angelic harmony occurs. When someone is out of place in the home, the whole household feels the effect of it. GOD LOVES YOUR FAMILY! Don’t forget we all started out as children. The Lord has given the family a priceless gift — children. “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” (Psalm 127:3). A child’s life is an empty book which is written by his parents one page at a time. A boy gave a plaque to his dad which stated, “ Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad! ” Every mom and dad, teacher, preacher and so many, many others are molding the families of tomorrow. The family is the gauge of the nation and the church. If our family is strong, our church and country will remain strong. LOVE is the immediate foundation of the home and the Bible

tells us that, “GOD IS LOVE.” Christ’s love was active. The hands of His love washed His disciples’ feet. The feet of His love walked about doing good. The eyes of His love wept with compassion. Love is only love as it is active. The home of the family is a place of highs and lows, laughs and tears, worry and peace. The family often experiences times that could not be bought by all the gold in Fort Knox. A small boy was constantly in trouble with his mother. One day she decided he was ready for a spanking, but he ran off and hid beneath the covers of his bed. She decided to let him stay there until his father came home. Later the father went to the boy’s room and gently raised the sheet. “Hi, Dad,” the boy whispered. “Is she after you too?” How much would this experience be worth? March 11, 1942, was a dark, desperate day at Corregidor. Surrender was inevitable. General Douglas MacArthur had only three words for his comrades as he stepped into the escape boat destined for Australia: “I SHALL RETURN.” A little over two and a half years later, October 20, 1944, to be exact, he stood once again on Philippine soil. This is what he said: “This is the voice of freedom, General Douglas MacArthur speaking. People of the Philippines, I HAVE RETURNED!” The family takes an awful beating by the elements of this world, but let us remember the family is a gift that God brought to this world a long time ago. Bible statistics show that anything God was for was destined for success. We may lose ground that means many of our personal family freedoms and relations but if we determine to recover these areas and return to them, the enemies of the family cannot stand. Pancake/sausage supper planned The All Saint Episcopal Church will hold a pancake and sausage supper from 5 to 7:30 p.m., on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Wawasee Episcopal Center, CR 1050 N, east of the South Shore Golf Course. The public is invited to attend. A free-will offering will be taken.

FAITH HELPS YOU PUT YOUR HOUSE AND YOUR LIFE IN ORDER A you are like a lot of us, you are hardworking, generous, kind-hearted, and in fact, virtually the whole list of Boy Scout attributes; but you have never learned the secret of being organized. You can quickly turn your house or office into a state of chaos, because you try to do too many jobs at once; and since you can’t bear to throw anything away, you never have enough storage space. Moreover, you overload your circuits because you are too public-spirited to say no to any worthy cause; and so you are too busy to serve any of them properly. Nevertheless, take the time to attend your House of Worship, for it will help you bring neatness and order into your life. There are only so many hours in the day, and you should let the Lord show you how to make the most of them. After all, He arranged the workings of the whole universe, so He can easily do the same for you.

Importance of love
By MARIETTA FULLER Salvation was bought with the price of love. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever befieveth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John3:l6) Love is proof that one is saved. “Beloved, let us love one another for love is of God, and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (1 John 4:7) Love fulfills the law. The two great commandments of loving God and loving our neighbour fulfills the law. (Mat. 22:37-4) “God is love.” (1 John 4:8) In order to love God and our neighbour, we must have the Holy Spirit living within us; for “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (Rom. 5:5) God said, “If you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15), Feb. coming events at UMC The February coming events at Milford United Methodist Church are: 9t — Communion service during regular morning worship service. 9 — 4:36-7:30 p.m., local church leadership training meeting at West Noble High School. and here are a few of them: “As I have loved you, that ye also love one another (John 13:34); “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy” (Ex. 20:8); “In everything give thanks” (1 Thess. 5:18); “Praise ye the Lord” (Ps. 148:1); “Be filled with the Spirit” (Eph. 5:18); and many others. Loving our neighbour consists of not being selfish, greedy, and self-seeking but being compassionate, kind, gentle, forgiving, and also seeking to alleviate suffering, hunger, and poverty. We lay up treasures in heaven. ‘. . . For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also; “ so the love you have shown for others on earth can be the treasures awaiting you when you arrive in heaven! (Mat. 6:20-21) We will produce the Fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22,23) with “love” being the first one given and with the others being dependent on it. Our rewards in heaven depend on the love by which we have served our Lord, and our love depends upon the “Abiding” principle as set forth in (John 15:4,5). Here are a few of the many facets of love: “Fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ” and with all those who love and follow Him (1 John 1:3); “By this shall all men know

Someone has said there are three tablets to life: school tablet, aspirin tablet, and stone tablet. The pessimist turns the tablets into stages: desiring, despairing, and dying. The cynic describes them as learning, lamenting, and losing. But the Christian in the words of the Living Bible, “For to me, living means opportunities for Christ, and dying—well, that’s better yet!” *, Because the Lord has given me life in all of its fullness, life to me is a

blessing, not a bore; a challenge, not a chore. And death—it is an endless hope, not a hopeless end; gain, not loss. So I am going to start each day with zest, and give the Lord my best. I want to be completely used up when I go home to heaven; for the harder I work for Him, the happier I am. Life is learning eagerly, loving Him and all who are His wholeheartedly, laboring for them earnestly, and living abundantly. What is life to you?
