Church must rebuild

Rev. Dean McFadden, pastor of the Bible Christian Church near North Webster for the past five years, is always a busy man and anticipates that 1986 will be no exception. Bible Christian Church, located one-quarter of a mile south of CR 500 N, southeast of North Webster, suffered severe damage in early December, 1965 when a large portion of the ceiling fell to the floor. Inspection of the building revealed that the damage was structural as the walls had spread apart creating pressures which caused the ceiling to come down. Fortunately, no one was in the building at the time and Rev. McFadden and his 30-member congregation have been holding their church services in the church parsonage on CR 500 N ever since. The congregation has begun planning to build a new church beside the old structure, which is unsuitable for repair. They hope to start the new building in March. The optimism of Rev. McFadden comes shining through the upheaval his church group has experienced with its building problems. In addition to pastoring the church, he works 25 hours a

The life blood of any House of Worship is its congregation, on whom it must depend for volunteer $5 help. McFadden are varied. He likes ice fishing in winter and tennis in the summer. He uses his bobby of playing a guitar to advantage by occasionally incorporating his music into church services. Mrs. McFadden, Debra, agrees that her husband is a very caring person and adds that he is a fine, loving husband. He grew up in Scottdale, Pa., and graduated from Philadelphia College of Bible in 1975 after having attended Penn State University for one year. Grace Seminary at Winona Lake was Rev. McFadden’s next step toward the ministry. He graduated from Grace Seminary in 1979. He and his wife, who grew up in Pierceton, moved to Peru where he was pastor of Bloomfield Brethren Church before his present pastorate in North Webster. Rev. McFadden believes that God’s blessings come, even from hardships such as a church building collapsing.

_ When adversity strikes, the place to turn is to God

J* or a long time, everything was going well. Your health was good and you had a steady job which at least enabled you to maintain a roof over your head and some semblance of a good life for your family. Then, suddenly disaster struck. Perhaps the company you worked for folded; or your doctor confirmed your fear that you have a serious illness; or your son was involved in a bad accident. Os course, it is hoped that no such tragic event will ever cast a shadow over your life; but if it should, get the professional help you need, be it medical, legal, governmental or whatever. Then turn to God and seek His guidance and comfort. Talk to your clergyman, who will pray for you and help you sustain your hope during whatever may come along, by reminding you of God’s everpresent love. You will never be more in need of it than at a time like this.
