Meals for Older Americans
Meals for Older Americans are served each day at the following locations: The Scout Cabin, Syracuse; the Pierceton Community Building; Mentone Community Room in the fire station; the Retired Tigers Center, 320 W. Main, Warsaw; and Packerton Community Building. Meals for Older Americans is for persons 60 years or older and is a chance to meet new friends and enjoy hot, nutritional meals. The sites are opened several hours each day including; noon for programs. Meals for Older Americans is not associated with welfare but is for the promotion for better health for the older population. Donations are accepted for the meals.

Kiwanis Club learns about SA program
The Skills for Adolescence program, initiated at Milford Junior High School, was explained at a recent Milford Kiwanis meeting by Dick Roose, a teacher from the school. “An adolescent’s preparation for life involves a united effort from the home, school, and community,” R 'ose stated, adding, “Parental ci icern is the reason we have the program, developed for the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.” Roose gave a presentation for

Members voted to give the Milford Public Library SIOO for its interior decorating fund. The club will have a used book sale during the sesquicentennial celebration with proceeds to go to the sesquicentennial fund and library improvements. Anyone having books to donate for this sale may leave them at the library. February has been designated “Ronald McDonald House” month, with donations of paper goods and packaged food to go to the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis. Dorothy Haney, program chairman, introduced Tom Speicher, pharmacist, who fur- ■- nished the program. Speicher, who has been a pharmacist for Walter Drugs, Inc. since 1978, explained the life of a drug from its inception in the research lab to marketing. The next meeting ot the club will feature “Show and Tell” on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Kiwanis members, showing the contents of the program., The program includes: Unit 1 — Entering the teen years: The challenge ahead; Unit 2 — Building self-cc nfidence through better communication; Unit 3 — Learning about emotions; Unit 4 — Friends: Improving peer 1 relationships ; Unit 5 — Strengthening family relatiorships; Unit 6 — Developing critical thinking skills for decision making; Unit 7 — Setting goals for healthy living, and Summing up — Developing your potential. The founder:; of the program are QUEST National Center and Lions Club International Students, parents and teachers all get involved with the pro gram, according to Roose, who said, “We want to teach children some of life’s skills.” The program shows youths how to handle the difficult teen years, how to say “No” to temptation:; and why they should do so, while informing them of their responsibilities at home, school, and to their community. According to Roose, the program is strongly supported by the parents of junior high schoolers.

Stephen White visits family
Stephen R. White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve White of North Webster, has recently returned to Lake City, Fla., after a threeweek visit with his parents and sisters, Lisa, 19, and Michelle, 14. White is attending Lake City Community College where he is enrolled in a three-year course in golf course operations. He is studying golf course mechanics, landscaping, and turf. He will be assigned to a golf course within 500 miles of the school for the next two summers as part of his training.
White is a 1984 graduate of Wawasee High School and has worked the past three summers at Maxwelton Golf Course in Syracuse. OnGMP Preliminary estimates showed that the economy grew at a 3.2 percent annual rate for the fourth quarter, which would bring growth for the year well below the official estimates of the Reagan administration.
