Lady Warriors trounce Westview
By DAVE STRAUB Sports Editor Following two and a half weeks of inactivity, the Wawasee girl’s basketball team looked eager to get things going again last night That eagerness helped spark an easy 65-21 home court win over Westview. Michelle Harter scored a game-high 19 [mints to lead the Lady Warriors. “.They handled themselves well out there,” said Coach Dale Brannock, whose team is now 7-3 overall. The victory was also Brannock’s 100th at Wawasee. “They were able to pick things up after a slow start. I was pleased with all of the players.” After leading 10-4 in the first quarter, the Lady Warriors blitzed Westview in the second starza by outscoring the visitors, 22-4. By the half, it was 32-8. \ Wawasee added a 21-2 scoring tear in the third quarter, holding Westview (2-7) to a pair of free throws. Harter and Lori Galloway pumped in eight and six points during that stretch, respectively. Galloway added 10 tallies for the contest. Westview scored its first field goal of the second half when Tracy Fought swished a 10-foot jumper at the 5:18 mark of the fourth quarter. The visitors added three more field goals and a pair of free throws to double their output in the first three quarters. By then, Wawasee had emptied its bench and all but one player scored. Westview managed only 32 shots while the Lady Warriors attempted 66 field goals. Wawasee also out-rebounded its smaller opponent, 36-18. Reserve Center Kelly Brooks enjoyed a fine night under the boards, claiming 10 of those rebounds. Westview committed 23 turnovers to just 14 for the Lady Warriors. It’s Warsaw Thursday Wawasee travels to Warsaw tomorrow night for a big Northern Lakes Conference match. The Lady Warriors want to improve their 1-2 league record. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers are a hot team, recently winning their own tournament. They capped it off with a 44-40 win over fifthranked Valparaiso.

Penn splashes Wawasee
The Wawasee boys’ swim team ran into a tough squad from Penn Monday night as the visiting Kingsmen outclassed the Warriors, 105-67. The loss drops Wawasee’s record to 3-3. Penn posted winners in all 11 events while Wawasee had to settle for scattered second and third place finishes. Wawasee travels to Mishawaka next Tuesday for a dual meet.
